I was playing racquetball earlier today and got smashed in the eye with the ball- and not a small hit- the ball went straight from my buddy?s racquet to my eye. I saw the ball coming but I couldn?t move!

I made sure to ice it right away, and my vision is fine, but despite my quick response I have significant bruising and swelling. What makes things worse is that I have TWO interviews next week?

Should I reschedule my interview dates, or just explain to my interviewer what happened and hope he/she believes me?

I wouldn't sweat it. Why wouldn't they believe you? If anything, it gives them and you a good icebreaker to get the conversation started on a more human level.

P.S. I never thought of that little blue guy as a "swollen eye" icon, but it seemed appropriate for this thread!

i would still go to the interviews, especially if they go by rolling admissions. you can get the conversation going by talking about your bruise 😀

Definitely an Awesome ice breaker. Start off by telling them you got into a Bar fight, and tell them what the other person looks like. Then, at the last second, when they look confused, let em' now what really happened. Should make for a unique interview. Let's hope you stand out... ... 😉 👍

lucky guy....its "good" tat u got a bruise.....

adcom: "what do you do for some relaxing time?"
you: "well, funny you should ask that, I play raquetball, thats how this bruise happened...(pointing to bruise)."

at least you have some kind of proof 🙂 Dont sweat it.

Tell em you were beating your wife but she managed to get a shot at your head. But really, tell em what happened, its understandable.

I would go with a pirate eye patch. It would make you stand out.

Aren't you supposed to have eye protection when you play raquetball?

Yeah!
I just started playing, and I wasn't sure if I should spend the extra money on that stuff: sounds stupid now..

No one at the courts I go to wears them, so I thought it wasn't much of a risk... looks like I learned the hard (really hard) way.

thanks a lot everyone...maybe this is a good thing

Hey, be careful because you could get a retinal detachment. Seriously, I've been there and it is not fun.

Treg

I bought some goggles a couple of hours ago

Everyone's doing it. It's the cool thing to do... 👍

Best ice-breaker ever... Just go to your interviews. Med schools love an applicant that can take a shot in the eye.

I agree put an eye patch, that will make you like like a pirate and an interesting candidate overall. When they ask you something, just say "Arrrrggg mateee"

Last year there was a girl who had to wear a neck brace to her UTMB interviews b/c she was in a car accident and had whiplash. She couldn't even wear a blazer b/c the collar got in the way of the brace! Poor thing.
