phew...got a phone call 20 minutes ago. They had sent the sample to 2 independent labs & the health & human services dept at my program waited until both results came back before notifying the director-so thats what took so long. He stated that the toxicologist doesnt necessarily believe the test was improperly run but cant otherwise explain the positive result (in light of the result coming back negative twice). But whatever, the saga is over 🙂 Thanks everyone for the help & feedback! He didnt seem to want to go into details about the tests or the labs, so I just left it alone. To be fair he did sound busy in the background but I think after all that stress I'd like a conversation about what may have happened. Thanks again. I now get to go back to work stress free (ha yeah right lol)

congrats! proof mistakes DO happen.

OP: If this situation in any way made you start your training late and put you in a negative financial situation, consider speaking to a lawyer about litigation against your PD and the health center you are doing your residency at.

Worst career advice. Ever.

Congratulations! Glad to hear it.

To clarify: Were they running repeat tests on the original sample or were they testing a repeat sample?

And I would definitely NOT try to sue your program under these conditions. Let it go and move on. Trying to sue now would turn this into the career destroying incident that everyone was afraid of in the first place. (I know the OP wasn't planning this. I'm addressing the advice from a few posts back.)

I'd been watching the previous thread - so glad everything worked out ok! Take care and good luck!

What a nightmare! I'm glad it turned out okay.

Glad it worked out. I'd have some choice words for the lab guy who's so sure you can't get a false positive.

Um wow. I've never seen such bad advice, even on SDN.

OP, glad you got everything cleared up. Just leave things be, be thankful, and move on. Good luck with your intern year!

never thought I'd say or type this, but congratulations on your urine.

Congrats OP!

.....so are you going to get back on the Claritin-D, or did this experience ween you off of it? 😉

It might be a good idea to speak with your PD to make sure you know how this will be documented in your personnel file. I know you are just glad it is over and that they will leave you alone about it but it sure would suck if they had something in there that would create an issue when you get your first job/fellowship spot... Congrats on holding it together so well and I am glad it worked out the way it should have in the first place 👍

I would take this advice to heart.

And do the opposite.😎
