Hello,

My cumulative GPA is low, due to my horrible first year. But on my last 2 years, I have a cGPA of 3.6. MCAT: 26 (8,9,9)
ECs: .Executive Director of NGO. I lead three humanitarian missions in Haiti, the first one was 6 months after the 2010 earthquake.
. Plenty of clinical experience
. Many research hours: abstract published

MCAT is too low and schools although looking for an upward trend will not ignore your past GPA which you didn't mention. Apply broadly to DO schools if you want a chance.

In @ DO if you apply broadly and early (just to be sure)

You'll have trouble with MD. I'm not saying it's impossible, especially if you apply smartly to target schools, but your GPA/MCAT are holding you back. If you want to become more competitive, you can do a post-bacc to raise your GPA and retake the MCAT (be warned, though, that if you do worse, you'll significantly hurt your chances at both MD and DO schools).

Good luck!

Are you a Florida resident? Noticed the 1804 in your username. 😉

No I am not a FL resident but I am Haitian 😀!!

Apply to the historical black allopathic schools and probably the newer/ low tier MD schools.

Even as a URM, the cGPA and MCAT drop your MD chances to almost nil. If you really want MD, I'd suggest whatever state school(s) you're affiliated with and the historically black colleges. Otherwise, focus all your efforts and funds on DOs. The GPA and MCAT are still not the best for DOs, but you have a much better shot and the URM status will give you a boost.

Try Howard, Morehouse, Meharry... Read their mission statement and tailor your personal statement to it. They are MD schools. My understanding or misunderstanding is if you do well there and on your USMLE, you have a good shot at a great residency. Add it all up, MD plus great residency. What more could you ask for?

Additionally, you could try retaking MCAT. But why put all your eggs in a single basket? Apply also.

sak, pase?

Your GPA isn't going to kill you quite yet. If you can continue to do well this year and apply early and broadly next cycle your GPA shouldn't be an issue....your MCAT however is a major issue. You need to get that up to 30 or higher. If you can do that then I think you have a real chance at an MD school 👍

This is coming from a fellow URM who is in the same GPA range as you and has received interview invites in the top 10. Keep working hard.

N'ap boule. 😉

Agreed, with above. I'm a fellow Haitian as well and similar GPA range. Don't count yourself out, but do try retaking the MCAT.

OP, ignore this.

not this

Getting into an Osteopathic program should be no problem at all. In fact, the average for black URM at DO schools is around a 23 with a +/-3 standard deviation.
