Hi guys - just sitting and pre-writing secondaries and just thought I would give this a shot.
- cGPA - 3.55 sGPA - 3.45ish (maybe lower)
- MCAT 517
- Texas residency
- mixed
- undergrad - washington university in st louis
- clinical experience: i worked for a non profit hiv homeless rehab clinic for a year or so - travelled around st. louis to federally funded hospitals and clinics to interview/screen HIV+ individuals for admittance into our facility (a lot of clinical experience comes from here, i interviewed around 30 people)
- researched for 2.5 years undergrad, and will do more during gap year - around 3 pubs
- i shadowed some, but am afraid not that much - emergency med, ob/gyn
- hiv test counselor - counsel people before conducting rapid hiv/hcv screen (did this mainly in underserved communities)
- interned for agency that works to remove cancer disparities in st. louis - i've mainly worked to connect hispanic and bosnian communities in the city to the health care system
- peer counselor at school - trained for over 180 hrs, served for around 3 years, have held leadership positions in both of the peer counseling organizations on my campus
- after ferguson happened here, I worked to start a year long program for middle school kids on stress, community violence, justice, and identity. nominated for impact national conference "student of the year" and "service program of the year"
- tutoring and designed programming for kids in the Peabody public housing project in downtown st. louis
- interested in public health policy and implementation, working in underserved communities (either rural or urban), and primary care
please let me know if you guys have any advice or places you think i should esp apply - aka diverse and emphasis on community health/primary care 🙂
dream schools are U Miami, UCLA, and George Washington
