If you're on SDN right now, you need to close this window and turn on ESPN. The U.S. men are prepared to defeat Brazil for the Confederations Cup.

This is unheard of.

Impossible.

This will rank with some of the greatest U.S. sports moments in history.

Confederations Cup?... please

would rather watch either DVR'd copy of the Steelers winning the Superbowl, or the Penguins winning the Stanley Cup.

that was a great run.

we fell apart during the 2nd half.

donovan goal was probably the best one of the game though. 👍

we need better strikers.... 🙁

Brazil had about 3 times as many shots as the US.

Howard should probably be knighted for the number of bullets he's taken from Spain and Brazil. At some point, ya gotta bleed.

It was the final in a FIFA tournament, where other nations sent their best. Granted, we limped past the 1st round, but we beat the #1 team in the world 2-0 in the semifinal, and were up 2-0 at the half in the final against Brazil.

Yes, Brazil dominated from the first minute of the 2nd half, but this was not some meaningless friendly against a watered-down opposing team.

That one had the best passing but Dempsey made a great play on the first goal. He made a great shot and from the where the ball was sent in from it was very difficult to get much of a shot. Both goals were much prettier than the ones against Spain.

They don't compare to the ones from Brazil or Spain, but I thought ours played well. I was impressed with how Jozy Altidore played in the tournament. He is only 19 and is playing in Spain, so he will improve.

and about a 3 times longer history of playing football than the US( in terms of popularity).

It is an awesome result.

i was torn. my boys are half brazilian. i am not. wanted the US, but wanted them to enjoy a good brazilian win. great match.

So on watching the replay, did Dempsey even mean to do that? I think it nicked off his left knee. Not to say that he didn't do a great job putting himself in the right place, but I'm not sure he meant to hit the ball that way. I think he was going to go for a near-post shot.

I definitely second Altidore. He played his defender well during the game. At 19, I think we'll see improvement even between now and the World Cup.

As a final thought, was anyone else really excited about the U.S.'s defense? Onyewu, Spector, even DeMerit. I thought they all played really well.

And one more thought, I think Davies is going to be the new Frankie Hejduk. He spent the full 90 running his ass off. He was everywhere he needed to be. He's still pretty young too, so hopefully we'll see some improvement from him too.

Overall, really excited about the World Cup with this team.

Spain dominated the game and was denied a penalty, you can replay that game 100 times before you get another W.

OK, so they could have lost it 2-1 instead. 🙄 They're not going to replay the game 100 times; they played it once, and Spain lost. There's a reason the games actually get played, and the W's are based on who actually wins, not Vegas odds or national pedigree or who could've should've would've scored (three times?) if only the ref hadn't ruined the game.

Regardless, a couple things are certain -
1. USA played well against Brazil in the final but couldn't close the deal. Oh well.
3. Your lip-curling dismissive sneers directed at the USA team say more about you than any of the teams who played and won or lost.

I'll also add that one of my favorite things about watching USA-Mexico games are the inevitable tears and chest-beating out of Mexico as their team gets beat (again, and again) by an "inferior" US side.

I'm looking forward to tasting the tears of Euro-soccer-snobs and the South Americans. The day is coming. (I'm patient ... and young.)
