Hi all,

I am Canadian and applying to both US and Canadian Medical Schools this application year. Essentially, I would like to know whether there is communication about acceptances between the two systems.

Specifically, I envision a possible scenario of getting an acceptance from a US school (as they do these generally earlier than Canada) prior to hearing back from Canadian schools.

Does anyone know if one would be able to hold such acceptances until you heard from Canada? Anyone ever been in a similar scenario?

Thanks,

Either way you can withdraw after may 15 and simply lose your deposit

I met someone last cycle who had this dilemma. If you have multiple US acceptances, you should narrow it down to one school by May 15th. If you get accepted to a Canadian school after May 15th, then you can drop your US acceptance (losing your deposit) in favor of the Canadian school. I'm not sure if the two systems communicate with each other, so the US schools might not know if you're holding a Canadian acceptance and vice versa. However, you should be polite and promptly let a school know if you have decided to go elsewhere.

perfect. Thanks for the info.

IF I manage to get an acceptance in the US... it will be tough to decide between a big name school and the much less $$$ that it would be in Canada.
