US Coronavirus Testing Capacity....Could Fail Again

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You are blaming big academia for Quest and Labcorp running out of capacity?

Most of the large academic centers are doing their own testing and not having as much of a problem keeping up. Maybe that's not true down south though, I don't know.

Isn't every problem really BIG ACADEMIA's fault ultimately? Why haven't they created a miracle cure for COVID-19? isn't that what we pay them all those fat government grants for? Why haven't they created scalable testing for the country? Isn't that why we pay our taxes for? Why do they continue to undermine our institutions by brainwashing our children with communist and socialist propaganda? My buddies didn't die face-down in the muck in Vietnam so that these liberals in BIG ACADEMIA could destroy America with their BLM manufactured protests! Why is BIG ACADEMIA orchestrating the new civil war?

/I'm just asking questions!

Q and LC haven’t failed us. Both companies have been steadily ramping up capacity at an amazing pace while several labs crapped out (ARUP). Along the way the direct communication between the White House and LCs & Q’s CEO staved off PAMA cuts for a year. What more do you want them to do?
And all this while running Covid testing at a reimbursement that 9/10 labs would lose $.

My contractor once told me — for your next job you can have it 1) fast 2) high quality or 3) low cost. You can only have 2 / 3 but you get to pick, let me know what you want. Lab work is kinda the same way.

Big Academia should have been ramping up PCR testing as much as possible to help supply each state with ample tests. Big Government should have made sure the supply chains did not go through “JINA” for essential medical supplies.

Both FAILED

What are you even basing that on? Most big academic centers don't have unlimited space/money/staff to just add capacity rapidly for whole new lines of testing. There's no free huge warehouse to put row after row of covid testing machines, nor is there magic capital floating around to buy the new machines, hire the new techs, etc etc. What lab universe do you live in??
