To all our Canadien Pre-dent friends, have any of you taken (or as you would say it "wrote") both versions of the DAT? Aside from the chalk carving required by the Canadien DAT, is there any difference!!

Does the Canadien version have all the sub-sections as the US version?

Biology (which includes topics from Embriology, Genetics, Plant Biology, Endocrinology, Anatomy, Ecology, Evolution, Biochemistry, Virology, Microbiology, Neuroscience, Physiology, and Behavioral Science)

Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

Reading (3 passages)

Quantitative

Perceptual Ability Test (which includes 6 subsections on its own - Angles, Cube Counting, Hole Punching, Box Folding, Apertures [key holes], and TEF [top, end, and front view])

I read some posts on here and had a feeling that the Canadien verson sounded easier than the US version! Big Poppa claimed that it's pretty tough to get a "20" in the Canadien version, does it have the same scoring system as the US version? It's pretty tough to get a "20" in the US version as well! If you an average, regular, Joe Schmo student like myself, you REALLY have to dedicate a lot of time into studying the US DAT to earn that score!!

I know that the Canadien version is only offered two or three times a year (not sure exactly), that kind of sucks, but I would like to know your thoughts on the two versions. Is the Canadien version more chanllenging, easier, or the same as the US version (not counting the chalk carving)?

I know that the chalk carving would be easy for me because I love doing that kind of stuff! I, personally wouldn't mind if the US version of the DAT had a chalk carving section! 😎 I'll look forward to hear your responses!

Oh yes, one more thing, PLEASE contribute to the STATS PAGE thread in this forum!!!

Canadian one is much harder. The US one is a joke.
Hope this helps.

Jase133,

Thanks for posting, but no, your post didn't help at all!! Would you mind backing up your statement? Why and how is the Canadien version harder? What are your scores for both versions? Again, your experience is much appreciated, but you need to be more specific than that!
😎

I've only taken the Canadian DAT (a week ago actually). But I studied with the Kaplan DAT book. The Canadian DAT doesn't have the Math or the Orgo. The PAT on the Canadian is about 20x tougher than the Kaplan one. The bio and chem are comparable. Actually the Canadian one was more 'conceptual' whereas the Kaplan one was more rote memorization. The reading, well I basically winged it when i took it and never practiced with the Kaplan, so I couldn't tell you. The Canadian DAT is offered in only in February and November every year. I posted earlier that I thought the Canadian DAT was easy, but then again I may have been lucky and I've had a lot of practice with multiple choice scantron tests. My GPA ain't bad either, so I don't know.

Peace. 😀

Well, I never took the American DAT but I can tell you it seems like a lot more people score in the 20's.

When I took the Canadian Dat 5 years ago, I didn't do as expected - I thought I aced CHem and got 18 and thought Biology was hard and got a 20.

To tell you the truth, I don't think the test has much validity. There are people in my class who got 14 on the PAT and did just fine in dental school and people with 20's who struggled.

I agree with Big Poppa
I took the US DAT and thought that I pumped on the reading and got 19. However, the Biology was much better and I got only 17. This is really embarrassed for me as I am probably one of the best molecular biologist for just B.S level. I have had years of research. A few papers published and more in press. Giving talk at several big meetings. Training a couples of graduate students in lab. Run my own research project...
I don't think the score really measure how much you know about science. It measures how well you deal with stress.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone from the U.S. can share the distribution curve stats? Assuming the average applicant in US and Canada are of equal aptitude then if we see a higher percentage of Canadians getting 20+, it would mean that US DAT is tougher.
