Hi,
I am a canadian in my last year of dental school in US. I want to go back to canada. I know that I would have to take the canadian licencing board exam. But I was just wondering if there are enough jobs for dentists in canada especially around toronto. And also how should I go about looking for a job there. There is no information provided at my school about this and I have no clue as to where to look for info and how to begin. Please help.
Thankx.

Which dental school are you in?

Here at Univ of Pennsylvania, I have seen job posts for a few places in Canada (not really sure where, I'm not Canadia) in the $160k Canadian $ range.

I think you could try Dentaltown.com

You'll definitely find associateships in Toronto. However, Toronto is the worst place in Canada to practice - way over saturated.

There are 2000 patients per dentist in all of Ontario, but 800 patients per dentist in Toronto.

yup it's exteremly difficult to get enough pt flow for an associate, you may have to work 2 or 3 different practices to be able to get going. I'm in 2 practices one in down town toronto and the other in burlington (i live half way in mississauga and the commute is sick!). if you have the flexibility than i would stay away, maybe 1-2 hrs away from t.o. you should be able to find very lucrative offers there.
Good luck

The univeristy of Tornto has a section devoted to listings:

http://www.utoronto.ca/dentistry/newsresources/practice/associateships.html

though not extensive, it may provide you with a few leads over the next couple of months.

If I were you I would try to network as much as possible and would even cold call a couple of officies.

I think your prospects are positive, my new grad buddies have all been able to find work.

I think areas north (Aurora, Vaughan), East (Pickering) might be good areas to try if you are willing to commute. The good thing is - the 404 and 401 will not make it too difficult
