Is it difficult for a US citizen/dentist to practice in Canada? Is it difficult to achieve licensure (or just a matter of completing the appropriate examinations, etc)? Is there any type of reciprocity for licensure (I have been a licensed US dentist for near 5 years)? Is the regulatory environment in Canada business friendly or antagonistic?

I see a number of places where my specialty is very underserved in Canada and there is a great opportunity in some places. Thanks.

For the US dentists to practice in Canada, you will still need to take the written exams (NDBE) which takes place in Canada only. Afterwards, apply for license in each province. You would need to get a visa sorted though.. most likely a TN visa (secure a job first?) before you can get a license... For specialists, you would need to complete the Royal Colleges Fellowship exams (or also known as NDSE).
