hey, I'm a US medical grad currently in residency in pathology in the US, but my partner is a Canadian citizen and we are considering relocating to BC... does anyone know if residents ever transfer from US residencies to mid-training openings in Canadian residencies?

...alternatively, more likely I will complete my training in the US and try the move after I've done a year of post-residency training here and passed pathology boards, is there any info out there about my chances of finding a job in Canada as a US trained MD?

any insight appreciated!

If transferring to a Canadian university from a US one is the question, I think it can be done.

Know a Canadian girl that went to Ireland for Medical School and got into a psych program in the US. She subsequently transferred to UBC for psych I think in second or third year - she wanted to go back home to Vancouver. As an IMG, if she can do it, you should be able to do it also - dependent on the exams you need (anyone here can vouch for the USMLE's being equivalent to the LMCC in BC as it was changed here in Ontario over the past few years)?

If anything, just get your permanent residency in order first.
