US IMG, wondering where I can even apply.

Im a US IMG, Non Caribbean, with a Pass/250. Ive done 3 away rotations at random hospitals (Ohio, NJ, Fl), and got really good LORs. Also have 3 kinda low impact pubs.

I don’t know if Id be wasting my signals at places like SUNY, Sinai MSMW/Elmhurst, Cook County, Maimonides, Jacobi, etc.

I graduated last month and Im applying IM

Can someone please help me out?

Realistically speaking you should look at programs’ list of current residents and target programs that have at least a couple of IMGs. If there is not a single grad from a non U.S. MD/DO school then you’re wasting your time. If they do have even one or two you know they’ll at least consider your application. So for your specific target programs you should look at their current residents

I agree with the above, with some caveats.

The "best" measure you have is how prior grads from your school have done / the programs they have gone to. But in prior posts you've mentioned how unhelpful your school is, so that may not be easy. But, you can google search for your school -- many residency programs list their residents with their schools online, and you might be able to find where some of them have gone.

Next, you could look for programs that are mostly IMG. In that case, being an IMG won't be an issue at all - and not needing a visa will be a big plus. You mention Jacobi, and their residents are here: Current Residents – Jacobi IM Residency You'll see they are almost all IMG's. Applying there seems like a decent plan. You mentioned SUNY but there are two - downstate and upstate. Downstate is here: Current Residents | Categorical Internal Medicine | Residency Programs | SUNY Downstate Department of Medicine Unfortunately they don't list schools there, so you'd need to google each name and look up their NPI record (which is public). Upstate is here: https://www.upstate.edu/medresidency/current/residents/R-1-residents.php Also doesn't have schools listed. But you should be able to look them up.

You may find that a few, very competitive programs have IMG's. Mayo Clinic is a classic example. Even though they have a good number of IMG's, they usually are looking for those with large research portfolios or other such criteria. You won't compete well at those programs.

Don't poo poo community hospitals. A good number of them take IMGs with or without visa requirements. Some have good research opportunities and good fellowship placements.
