what kind of USMLE Step 1 scores are needed for an US IMG to get into a 2nd tier psych residency?(i.e. if you assume the 1st tier as being the top 20 psych programs)

how important is USMLE Step 2 scores for US IMGs?

any feedback would be appreciated. thanks.

as most programs are no longet taking fmgs

Really? Where did you hear that?

To Dr. Wolkower, What do you mean by your comment? Do you realize FMG (outdated) is the same as IMG.

Perhaps you should tell the NRMP and the ECFMG that. They don't seem to have gotten the message...

that's a good point!

I think what Dr. Wolkower may have meant is to not worry about being a US-IMG and mathcing in psych. I've done tons of research into this. Most PDs I spoke to told me, in not exactly the same words, that they'd rather take a US-IMG than a true IMG any day of the week (these were psych PDs). psych is different than other fields of medicine because communication skills/cultural understanding is at a premium. As a US-IMG you won't have any troubles at all matching into a solid program. Obviously, the higher your scores the more options you'll probably have, but most of the PDs I spoke to said they could care less about board scores and implied to just pass the damn tests.
