I was wondering about doing rotations in the US. My school has the core rotations in the US, but when it comes to electives, if I want to do an elective with say a specific surgeon or group or something, is that possible? 😕 I only ask because a surgeon I work with that knows I'm going to med school invited me to come do a rotation with him and his group if it is possible. Any input would be great.

Thanks.

your best bet would be to ask the school directly, as they would have the correct answer. Also be aware that for licensure for strict states such as california require that your rotations be in affiliated hospitals or be green book or something along those lines. I'm not to sure someone else will probably come along and correct me but keep this in mind.

Sorry, I'm just about to start school. What does Green Book mean?

Green book rotation is a rotation that has a ACGME approved residency in that rotation. For instance, if you want to do a medicine core clerkship then it has to be in a hosptial where they have a ACGME approved IM residency program (which tells everyone that this place is a teaching hospital...whether the attendings or residents teach or not is another story!).
This is important for licensing because several if not all states require that your 3rd year core rotations be done at ACGME approved programs.

BTW what school are you going to?

Oh, I figured that, I was talking about like an elective during fourth year at the end or something. I didn't mean my core rotations. I'm going to Xavier.
