Hello,
One of my co residents was asking, if it would be possible for US trained PM&R physicians to practice PM&R in Canada.
Would there be any difference in the residency curriculum / requirements?
Inputs appreciated.

Thanks

PM&R training is 5 years in Canada. Someone who completed a 4 year (or 1+3) ACGME accredited PM&R residency can practice in Canada after doing an additional PGY-5 year in an RCPSC (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada) accredited program. They would obviously need to pass all of the necessary Canadian certification exams as well.

I think the completion of an ACGME accredited fellowship would also meet the requirement of the 5th year of post-graduate training.

Shame on me for not reading the pdf carefully before posting. cbest is correct, with the key point being that the fellowship has to be ACGME accredited.

PM me if you want other specifics about practice in Canada. The practice styles are quite different. Management styles are very different. The diseases are the same. Well, probably more MS and less lyme and RMSF. And not too many snakes that would kill you.

cheers

It probably doesn't hurt that I'm a Canadian studying medicine in the US who happens to be VERY interested in PM&R and, one day, working back north of the 49th parallel.
