I try to find the acceptance rate for USC but I just couldn't find it. I heard USC is pretty selective for their interviewees. But what is the acceptance rate for the school after you get interview?

yes, invitation email did say they select students carefully but i can only imagine they interview whole bunch of students just like NYU because alot of students turn down USC for its high tuition cost just like NYU

USC's tuition makes your dad sell his house, his balls and do forgettable things at night. I'm sure a lot of people apply there blindly, get accepted, then realize that they don't want their dad to go through all that, and then withdraw. That's why their average matriculant has a GPA of 3.2.
 
Not sure if this helps you, but I interviewed there last year (February) and was wait-listed. They interview twice as many as they accept. When I was there, I was told 50% of the interviewees would get in.

does that 50% ratio also apply to people who got pre-december interviews?
 
USC is interesting for these reasons...

--only dental school where Asians are not a minority; they are the majority!
--there are some hot Asian dental school babes, no joke (my buddy walked around with a semi-woody during our tour lol)
--the dental school building looks like a ghetto community rec center but right across the street the film school building looks like a resort with palm trees
--not enough chairs = some good chair fighting

Thanks for all the inputs. I know it is pretty expensive school that why I need to consider whether it is worthy to attend the interview or not. It is also expensive to fly there and especially high tuition and living fees made me worried about choosing them.
 
Interviewed there last year, rejected. There were about 30 people in my interview at SC last year and they did group interviews where it's a round-robin process; pick a question out of a basket and answer it in front of everyone. I even sent them a thank you card :corny:.

I think that's atypical because the last interview I went to had about 8 people, and we were interviewed separately. :xf:

Also, if you interviewed, you're auto-waitlisted if you don't get in during the acceptance periods.

so ur automatically waitlisted to usc after interview if ur not accepted? did they tell u this? Thats not THAT bad..

It was interesting, that's for sure! There were 8 of us together like DunStop said. There was no one-on-one which I'm not a fan of. But they ask you questions and require the 8 applicants to answer "as a team". It was weird because me and one other guy talked the most as in answering questions etc. Everyone else was kind of quiet. I was watching the interviewers and the guy kept writing stuff when me and that other guy talked but didn't write when other people spoke. At the time, I took that as a good sign but obviously I didn't get in so I'm not sure!

To answer the other question.. I don't know if that 50% average applies to pre-Dec interviews as well. I would assume it is better than that.

And yes, I'm pretty sure they gave us a paper that says you are automatically wait-listed if you were interviewed. Although, aren't a lot of dental schools like that? I know OHSU is...

i say its around 350 because i assume its more than twice the number of seats. USC has one of the highest turn down rate since it is the MOST expensive dental school in the nation. for example, midwestern has 115 seats and accepted 203 students(based on 2009 ADEA statistics). So USC should be slightly more than twice. the guide didnt have usc stats

Well... I guess I found a good reason to go to USC despite what I've heard and the tuition cost I've seen.
 
Obviously, the reported statistics for the 2011 ADEA book is wrong.

In the book, it says they accept 100% of the interviewee, and all of the accepted are enrolled...

Regardless, it says of the 350 interviewed last cycle, 144 were enrolled. So we can guess maybe 175+ or more were accepted?

I'd say 50% acceptance rate is about right, and that is supported by PreDents 46% interview:acceptance rate for last cycle as well.

oh so the guy up there that said they interview ~500 is wrong?
 
That was for the C/O 2015.

I have the newest ADEA book (2011) and if I'm not mistaken, stats are from C/O 2014 since 2011 book has 2010 statistics...

I'm not sure where he got his sources from, but again according to the guide, USC two cycles ago in 2010, 350 were interviewed, and 144 were enrolled.
His other numbers seem right, 3,343 applicants and 144 seats is what I have.

I just looked at my old post, forget what I said about 100% interview:acceptance rate that's wrong (obviously), I meant to say the book indicates 100% acceptance:attendance rate, which we all know this is not true either.

omg if its true that they interview 350...we have such a high chance of getting acceptance! maybe it is close to 100%...because i know that schools usually accept near twice the number of seats they have... especially for usc since alot of people turn them down
 
yeah but i heard so many bad things about this school.. wonder if its true.. something like all they do is PBL 3 days a week and no class.. there board pass rates are low etc etc..... i wouldnt wanna pay 120 grand a year to not be taught any classes and fail my boards..... is this true anyone know about these problems ppl have been addressing? I checked ADA website earlier in the summer (may) and it said something like they have to do check ups on there accreditation.. that was a lil creepy.. but now it says "approval without reporting requirements".... so im not sure whats up

I heard worse things about NYU. Don't go to NYU thread is much longer than don't go to USC thread. LOL anyway i heard the board pass rate is pretty good. 80-90 percent
 
lol very true i heard sum bad stuff about nyu as well.. but does USC have no classes? lol that just simply scares me.. what exactly are we paying for then? i mean pbl is great for SUPPLEMENTARY and real world scenario teaching but not something to be in substitute of class and actual teaching imo

i heard usc is more like 70 and they try to avoid the question if asked about it but who knows.. and IMO even if it is 80 that means 20% fail and that is very very bad
 
I'm a 3rd year at USC and just took (and passed) my boards part I. I can tell you that the passing rate is about 95% first time around. A few people fail every year. I love USC and did just as well on my boards as my friends at other schools....so I'm definitely not missing those lectures!

Agreed. Also a D3 at USC and passed my boards without a problem, and I've only heard of a couple people not passing. I was pretty scared of PBL going into it too, but it's not that bad and they seem to be cutting it back either way. Most importantly, clinic is AWESOME. The docs working on the floor are incredible...I've only been in clinic for about a month now and already learned so much. Yeah, price is always going to be an issue, but if you're deciding between comparably expensive schools or have the luxury of HPSP, I'd seriously consider USC.
 
Is it true there aren't enough chairs at USC? That's been an issue I read on SDN.

You mean in the clinic? I'm pretty sure there are 160 chairs on the main floor and then even more in the DH clinic, grad clinics, radiology, admitting, etc. I don't think I've ever seen every chair filled before, but some sections are in more demand than others, so you may have to wait a couple of weeks to get a spot in one of those areas at a time that works for you and your patient. I've heard it can be frustrating when you really want to get a patient in for a comp or whatnot, but that's just how dental school clinics work.
