grace period is we have to start repaying the loans after 9 months of graduation otherwise compound interest will start means interest on interest.
Salime has that grace period of 6 months.
north star does not charge repayment fees of 5 % as salime.

Hi Ddsfight!
welcome aboard!...Hope all is going on well with your loans and stuff. Have you made plans for accomodation n stuff?
Coming to the loans....During the initial stages i.e Jan or so I'd contacted Northstar regarding the loans n stuff. But I was told that they do not entertain foreign grads rather...they don't entertain loans for international students (H-4) etc...so, do u have a Green card?
I am going through Sallie MAe now. It's true they have a one time 5% repayment fee.But Sallie Mae offers loans on a prime-0.5 %, how about Northstar?
Thanks for the info though...
Just 2 more weeks to go....
See you soon!!!

I have a green card so they checked my credit history. I guess interest rate depends on that and the time when they transfer money in our account.
I already made plans for accomodation.

That is great..!! Those two points will lead to you saving a decent amount of change! Was it because you applied with a green card that they offered a longer grace period and the no charge at repayment option??

I was talking to someone from this yrs graduating class last weekend to know how school is going to be.. Overall it had been a great experience is what was the general opinion, though the PBL format was not something that they were too happy about. It seems that the group and the level of motivation within the group decides how much theoritical knowledge we acquire during the two yrs. The instructor is very important and sometimes some groups do not get the right one..(eg a Oral Surgeon for a perio case) I believe, we would be discussing a case and go into details about it for the next couple of weeks, by establishing learning needs and then researching on it and getting back with the info to our group. I wonder how they grade us though??? 😕
There were no complaints about the clinical aspect of things though.
Anyone with any info ..do pitch in and correct me if i'm wrong!

Hi All,

I talked with Sergio yesterday and he told me that they have finalized terms with a new private loan lender ,( EDUCATION FINANCE PARTNERS) and according to him this is the best among all. But anyways, he asked me to compare this one with others by myself so that we can finally choose whichever best suits our need. I just started working on that. Thought it would be useful for everybody who is applying for private loans. If anybody has any additional information please do share with us.Their website is
www.educationfinancepartners.com.

THANKS.

All those starting school this year, please read and reply to the "Universal 2007 Acceptance Thread" started by yours truly.

Thanks

He had mentioned that sallie mae signature loan as the most preferred when i spoke to him last...did he mention why this loan is better?
Also have they decided on this yrs final fee structure... coz only once they do that, will the lenders decide on the disbursement dates??

I got this info. from sergio last week only. He told me that education finance partners is better than other lenders in terms of interest rates and also he mentioned that they have better repayment options. But to be on the safe side, just compare it with other lenders and then decide. And about the estimated cost of attendence , it is around $83,000 per year.

So, all packed up for the school.Where are you staying and when are you coming to LA?

See you all soon. 🙂
