Hello dental students,
I just got accepted to USC and I am trying to decide whether to take the offer. And I'd like to ask the current USC dental students, preferably juniors and seniors, some questions relating to dental clinic. They are as follow.

1. Is finding patients during the 3rd and 4th year expect to be difficult at USC? I heard those horrible stories of spending a lot of money to buy patients for required procedures.

2. How about the chair situation? I know that USC is renovating the clinic. But is there still going to be problems with fighting for usable chair and wasting chairs because of computer problem and area desgination problem?

Many thanks!!!😀

I have never paid for any procedure out of pocket. The school gave us 2,000 allowance for difficult to manage requirements. I still have 1700 of this. Some people are quick to use their money and others save it. I have been holding on to mine and ill probably use it for an elective procedure rather than a requirement.

We went with the adec 511 and it looks great. We have one on display for the time being. Heard from Dr. Abelson that we will also be re-doing the floor which is a major plus. Never had to fight for a chair. Sometimes I have had have to re-schedule if I am very set on who I want to work with. Even tho people talk about other clinical models, Im not sure that they would be much better. One model discussed is the group practice model with one faculty, 8 chairs with any possible procedure able to be done there. Problem is that I don't think all faculty are capable of handling ALL types of cases, mainly removable, oral surgery, and fixed. Despite the frusteration of having to work in different sections and move all the time, the benefit is that you can work with one faculty for removable consistently, one faculty for fixed, etc and this allows you to learn from someone you respect. I can tell you that not all faculty are created equal. Period.

1. If you work hard you will be fine. The class of 2009 had a 90% graduation rate on time.

2. the chair situation is not that bad, it would be nice to have your own chair, but every school has its own share of problems.

i guess it depends what other options you have.

The class of 2010 will have a similar or higher graduation rate. I know a lot of my friends are at the edge of completing all requirements.

Sounds good! It seems like USC's clinic situation has much improved since early 2009. I look forward to attend USC! 😀
