USC: If you had enormous wealth, how would you allocate your charitable donations?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

I wanted to write 1in6, an organization dedicated to sexual violence against males.

This is something I am genuinely very passionate about, but can see that this may be risky. (I am also male)

Yea or nay? Should I pick an organization that is gender-neutral like RAINN? Or ditch sexual violence altogether?

Forgive me but I don't quite want to share the whys here. I am only wondering if this crosses the line of taboo topics or things that might not sit well with certain readers.

Just have someone read it to make sure you don’t sound like you are minimizing what women go through. Sounds like a good organization

you absolutely do not owe anyone your personal details

I googled 1in6 and learned in about 30 seconds: " 1in6 was founded in 2007, and our website was created in 2010, in response to a lack of resources addressing the impact of negative childhood sexual experiences on the lives of adult men, one of many under-recognized aspects of childhood sexual abuse. In 2016, we expanded our mission to include men who experienced sexual assault as adults."

Many of us are well aware of the existance of sexual explotation of boys and young men. I would not see it raising eyebrows, particularly at USC.

I don't think there can be a wrong answer provided you give sufficient justification and it "flows" with your overall application. Obviously, some answers are "easier" to justify than others.

You would be surprised at the ability of some folks to screw up a softball question

Run with it. Just answer from the heart.

The why questions are meant to gauge your self-reflection abilities, which will also be evaluated in whatever answer you give. While you are not required to give us your response, understand that if I gave you this question in an interview, this is one thing I want to know. And sidestepping as you have speaks volumes... more than whether your topic crosses any line.

You all might be speaking of different “why” definitions.

if the OPs “why” was a personal assualt or proximity to one, they never owe anyone thst story. They do owe a “why did you choose thet charity” reason in some other form.

Did you guys receive applications from others UCs such as UCLA or UCR?
