Don't worry if you haven't received any in-state interviews yet. This is my first in-state interview as well. Seems like Cali Dental Schools take their time with their admission process. I know for a fact that we won't be hearing anything from UCLA anytime soon (At least not till late Oct).Im dying for an instate interview! i really wanna USC interview! how did you recieve it? email? Also did your online status update? Did you just get it? (lol thats like 50 Q's)

Anyways....here are the answers to your questions:
-Got it via e-mail.
-No! My AADSAS status has not changed yet (Doesn't seem like AADSAS is doing a good job in terms of keeping our records updated).
-Yes! Got it like 20 minutes ago.
I hope you get an interview too.![]()

You wanna stay as far away from the school, because the school is located in a rough neighborhood!I got invite today as well. Mailing 7/24 batch
Anyone has good info on the area and where to stay?
Flying to cali is so expensive....

My Suggestion:
Stay at Downtown LA Marriott. It's about 4 miles away (~9 minutes...Without traffic).
Here's the link:

Best = http://www.radisson.com/losangelesca_midtown
Right across the street from campus and 5-7 min walk to dental building. Safe, and half of the floors are actually used to house USC undergrad.
2nd = http://www.vagabondinn.com/propdesc/FindHotel/HotelDetails.aspx?hotel=307
A block or 2 away from campus. Probably a 10 min walk to the dental building.
You will not have any trouble or fear for you safety walking to and from the interview from either of these locations. However at 2am, that's another story.
Cool.Hey! I just received my interview invites today.
When I saw the email it was already 5:30, so I couldn't schedule the time.
But I'm planning on scheduling on Oct.14 as well.
so that means I'll get to meet you in person =)
Congrats nze...
Hopefully I can hear anything from them... The application fee has been transferred and hopefully is in-progress now!!!

When I called to schedule my interview the guy who answered my call told me that I should print out all the forms, fill them, and bring them with me. So, I'm guessing handwritten is fine!btw, the PDF file that I received from USC can not be edited.
Is it just for me? Or is everyone facing the same problem?
Should we hand write those essay questions?
Hey,
I'm a first year at USC. If you have any questions, let me know!
Sheesh, I just looked at the ADEA guide and realized that USC "interviewed" 350 applicants and accepted 322 for the class of 2012. Maybe I should've applied.
Sheesh, I just looked at the ADEA guide and realized that USC "interviewed" 350 applicants and accepted 322 for the class of 2012. Maybe I should've applied.
Here are the stats given by the ADEA guide table 3-2:
IN-STATE
#Applied 1240 #Interviewed NR #Accepted 162
OUT-OF-STATE
#Applied 1911 #Interviewed NR #Accepted 160
So they don't give you the number of applicants they interviewed, but if you flip over to the USC info page:
#Applied 3151
#Interviewed 350
#Enrolled 144
1911 + 1240 = 3151, so you know the stats refer to the same year.
If this is true than wow, i HOPE i get an interview....
Its still hard to believe a ~95% acceptance rate, but i guess so( its cuz they are probably the most expensive school in the country!)
There's also the possibility of a typo. Given previous year's data maybe they actually interviewed 450 or even 550 students.
I've read that they have a PBL session as part of their interview process, so does that mean there will be no one on one interview? They won't ask us questions about dentistry and our application? Any advice on how to prepare for it would be appreciate. Thanks for any help! 🙂
I would like to know about that too.
I got my invitation today and I'm going to schedule it on 11/11 (can't believe they do interviews on a school holiday). Since it's a short notice and I have my midterms and papers coming up this and next week, I won't really have time to prepare. But if it is going to be PBL only, then I probably don't need to prepare at all?
269 plus 246 makes 515. I would believe 350 is typo as in post interview package they stated appr 500 students will be classified as post interview candidates. So out of 500 interviewees 322 acceptances and 100-150 waitlist makes sense.do you mind to share more on this?
I have older edition, ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools 2008 For Students Entering in Fall 2009 and this one does not give you acceptance numbers but only enrolled number (which is usually lot less than acceptance numbers since many students get into more than one school and decline) and numbers I have are:
In-state - 1327 applicants, 269 interviewed, 94 enrolled
Out-of-state - 1840 applicants, 246 interviewed, 50 enrolled
i am trying to see if they always offered lot of acceptances but many of them have declined due to high tuition / other issues or is it just a typo? (I have found some of these errors in my book).
it would be sweet if they did accept 322 out of 350 interviewed tho but it just sounds too good to be true..

Class of 144 people will require at least 288 acceptances as USC is one of the most expensive schools so yield can not be more than 50% for this reason alone. So sending for each seat 2,5 acceptances makes a good sense to me. What does not particularly makes sense- statement about forming their class by 1/4 pre Dec and then in quaters to follow. This would mean that they would interview 125 people only pre Dec. I do not remember exact numbers but predents had something like 70? people registered so providing predents is only a small part of all applicants I would think they are interviewing around 300 people pre Dec and 200 after. So they interview pre Dec 300 people but send Dec 1 only 80 acceptances, then they interview some more but re review pre Dec people again and send again 80 acceptances end of Dec and so forth. So intital pre Dec applicants might be reviewed several times and received their acceptance Jan... that makes sense and some schools do follow this strategy
I see you there, I got my interview invite there on Tuesday as well, and I schedule my interview for the 11/11. Since, it is short notice, and the interview is around the corner I decided to go on the holiday, so that I dont have to miss a day of work since I am a chemistry/physics teacher.
How do you like it there? Should i dress super super formal for my interview?Hi,
I'm a first year at USC. I just wanted to clarify that there is not a 95% acceptance rate. For the class of 2013, approximately 600 were interviewed. We were not told how many were accepted, but I know it is nowhere near 95%. From my interview, I kept in touch with a few other applicants...2 out of 5 were accepted.
Interview process at USC:
information sessions about USC, PBL, financial aid, etc.
tour of the dental school
lunch with upperclassmen
mock PBL session - not stressful at all see my other post above
writing sample - very simple..takes about 10 minutes
The interview is focused on selling USC to the applicant as well as making sure that you understand what PBL is and that it is a major part of the curriculum. USC doesn't interview a huge percentage of its' applicants...so basically, you have already impressed USC. During the interview day, you need to figure out whether USC would be a good fit for you...and the interviewers will try to do the same.
I hope this helped and feel free to ask me any questions!
How do you like it there? Should i dress super super formal for my interview?
Lol, super super formal? I think a tuxedo should do the trick!
