usc-keck and update letter?

So I have a bit of a dilemma. I just found out that I won a small (~$5000/yr) scholarship for med school! but the problem is it's only good for schools in Cali. The only school that I haven't been rejected from is USC, but I haven't even gotten an interview from them yet. So I just called USC and they said they are still offering interviews, but they also said they do not want any update letters. The only way i'll be able to keep this scholarship is if I get in there, and it's a school i would LOVE to go to. I know that they can't possibly be sending out interview invites for much longer - do you think i should send them an update letter even though they don't want one? if so, it seems like i should email it, to make sure it gets there quickly, but who should i email it to? does anyone have any advice??

Yeah, i think i've decided to go ahead and send the letter. i feel bad since they specifically told me not to - but on the other hand, this late in the game, i figure i'm probably destined for a rejection anyway. If they are still considering me for an interview, and they read this letter, i can't imagine they'll change their minds and suddenly rescind an interview offer because i got a scholarship. at least i hope not. <sigh> if only this whole process was easier!!!

well, i sent the letter and they don't care 🙁
i did get a financial aid application though...maybe there's still hope!! 😉 i wish they'd just hurry up and reject me already so i can tell my scholarship people if i won't be able to use the money.

they don't want update letters? so i guess they didn't care that i signed up for an F*ing biochem class just for them (and uci) that i informed them of in my update letter.

nope - when i called them to ask which email address to send it to, the conversation went something like this:

Me: "Hi, I was just awarded a really great scholarship that I can only use at USC and I wanted to send the admissions committee a letter to tell them about it"

Admissions Secretary: "We don't accept update letters."

Me:"oh, but this is a pretty big scholarship and it seems like a pretty important piece of information - is there any way you could let me know who I can email about it?"

Admissions Secretary: "We don't accept update letters."

Me:"well, I understand, but it's just that this money is just going to go to waste and USC is my first choice."

Admissions Secretary: "We don't accept update letters."

Me:"ok, but I was chosen to get - "

Admissions Secretary: click.

it was really sad. 🙁 but i just sent it to the admissions email address anyway. maybe instead of immediately rejecting me, they're purposely drawing it out to punish me for not following the rules. At least I tried!
