For those of you who are planning to attend USC, are you going to attend the orientation on April 13, 2005? I just received my letter today and was debating whether or not to attend.

I haven't recieved my letter yet. What is it about?

You should attend the Welcome Reception. You get to meet your future classmates and possibly find your future roommate.

Is there another one in July too? Do you recommend going to the one in April over the one in July?

What is the Welcome Reception about? What goes on there? What is the time frame? Sorry for all the questions... haven't gotten anything in the mail yet.

there are 2 welcome receptions...one in April and one on June 28th (for the people that will be accepted after April). I attended mine last year, and would recommend that you attend. Basically, it gives you an introduction to the school and to your future classmates..

I'm going and I know a bunch of others are goin to the welcome reception in april..

oh, and whats up with this guest thing though - does anyone bring their parents, etc.?

i wish we could just wear jeans to this thing... im tired of business casual - oh well.. 😛

If anyone else is goin - I look forward to seeing you all! 🙂

i came alone, but many people brought parents, bf, gf, etc...when you are broken up into the groups, the guests stay with Dr. Wincor (I think) and he talks to them, I am not sure about what

Oh and I just remembered my question - the "program" is from 6-8:30, but are there just going to be introductions the whole time? Thats kinda long isn't it? Is there anything else that is going on?

Dr. Louie only gave us 1 lecture in genetics the first year, but maybe that's a good question for immunology second year 🙂

I just received my letter. It didn't mention anything about those two welcome receptions. Is it because I am out of state?

OK... you can ask him about his lusterous tennis career... and Amgen stocks... Of course this really doesn't pertain to the "Story." ....

I love Stan... he's a good guy! 👍

Does Chris Lomax still give you the Constipation Lecture for the first year OTC class?

His line was... Assess what the patient wants.. Does he want a fast blast or a slow seepage... ???

Not sure Dr. Shen is still there...but for Biomedicinal Chem... he used to say.. in his heavy chinese accent.. "my mother in law... take all these different dwugs... and she still aint dead yet..."

Hooman Milani teaches diarrhea/constipation, but I think he graduated from USC couple of years ago himself.... Biomedical chem? They have changed the curriculum and we dont have that class anymore.

So did you all decide on going to the New Student Welcome Reception in April?? Just trying to get an idea of how many people will be attending. I actually never received the letter in the mail but just got the email from Crisitina. I don't know if I can make it in April but maybe to the June one. Are there generally more people that attend one or the other?

Those who got accepted in Nov and Jan are invited to the welcome reception in April. I will attend the one in June. I can't make it in April. I am excited about meeting you guys! 🙂

I still have to email Cristina, but I'll be there in April. Just wondering if you guys know of other faculties that will be there as well.

More people will probably attend the one in June. I dont really think it will matter too much.

hi everyone,

i've finally decided to join the mix after quite a few months of lurking around. i will be attending the usc orientation in april. i hope to see you guys out there!

So who ended up going to the April 13 thing?? How was it? Any important info you want to pass on??

I went .. it was lots of fun -- good food at the end.. met some nice people.

In terms of info presented.. nothing new. I've heard it all before because it was the same info that was presented if you went on one of their optional tours earlier in the year.

If you had specific questions though, you could've gotten them answered there because they had a breakout session-- a couple of P1's were there to answer questions and tell us of their experiences.

Dude, you all went? which breakout groups were you all in (i was in the next to last one)? but jammocah was right - it was a lot of fun! The pharm students really pumped us up about the fall. It was nice to see the faces of the folks who run the school. jammocah wasn't the cake awesome (i have a weakness for chocolate)? My friends and I got bored halfway during the student rep speeches so we started calculating the male:female ratio off of the list of students admitted so far... out of 96 students, we counted ~20-25 boys...boo! i hope the next batch of 100 will have more boys

I think the numbers are lower than that! Are you sure you're counting a girl's name as boy? Because there's some names where you can't tell if it's a girl or a boy!! 😛

I was in the second to last group too.

And yes it got a little slow at times when we were in the lecture hall -- My mom and I were trying to spot all the parents that were falling asleep.

Yeah there were a LOT of names I couldn't tell, but my vietnamese friend helped discern some of the names. you were in my group??? I was the indian chick from USC/TAP who sat in the second row!

I was at the reception also (first group). There was a financial aid session that could have been informative, but since I dazed off I didn't really retain anything useful. During the actual reception, I was grubbing! There was good food to be had by all. It was also nice meeting future classmates and upperclassmen, as well as staff. Overall, it was fun times.

well put me down for the June one, I certainly will be there. Oh, and no complaints here about the male/female ratio 😉
