Do a search about the test here and its important to practice for the practical test.

hi dr_annie and ubd,

i called the USC dental bookstore and they mailed me the cost of the equipment .

its $ 784 for the whole set .

the costliest item is 5 hole handpiece $400 and the columbia typodont is $ 193.

rest of the instruments are very much affordable.

saba.

hi sababilquis,
thanks for ur reply , i have one more qusetion, can we use 4 hole instead of 5 hole handpiece? ( to my knowledge 5 hole is the one with fiber optic light and the 4 hole handpiece is without one). let me know wat u think ?

hi saba
Thanks for your help.

Hi Sababilquis,
Thanks for ur information.....so we need only 1 set of typhodont or 2....
Cherry

Hi everybody,
what are u all planning ...are u all buying them...its a costly affair......can we rent them anywhere in the sanfrancisco or sanjose area?
Cherry

One set of Typodont is fine as I heard that they are going to supply the tooth for preparation. So all you have got to do is fix it up . This is what I have heard. So correct me if I am wrong.

4 Hole Handpeice always adapts to a 5 Hole one. There isnt any problem.

Cherry,
Is there any place we can rent these instuments? Seems like renting is appropriate.

Hi pearle,
Thanks for the info.....i too am on a hunt for the instruments incase i get any clue i will inform u.
Cherry

i HAVE A 4 HOLE HANDPIECE DOES ANY ONE KNOW THAT I CAN USE IT FOR USC EXAM? THANK YOU

hi saba
can i ask you where r u come from🙄

hi every body
as i want to apply for usc next year would you please tell
me about your scores

hi,

thanks for the info pearle ...i was thinking two typodonts will be required.well that should save some money.

the best thing will be to rent it.

the website mentions spatial relations as well as written and practical in removable partial dentures.

im really wondering as to what all will be asked in the practical.if only someone could guide us...😕 😕

hello merci,
can u pls tell the name and adress of the hotel so close to usc, cause i am planning to be there with my husband and searching for the closest hotel.🙂

hi there,
can anybody tell me what do USC people ask in group interview? what do they mean by PBL course!!!🙄

Can anybody tell me how much is the fee for USC Advanced Standing course?
Thanks.

Hi,
i have not applied to USC, but i sort of know what they ask in the practical test. if anybody has prepared for the Cali Restorative Tech. exam, they would have no problems with this test. its crown cutting, inlay-onlay, class 2 or bridge. any combo from this. if u have never done these things, do prepare for it. it would be a good idea to learn it from someone, or see the 'Duggan's' video tape. and about the handpiece, it need not be so expensive. u can buy a 100 bucks handpiece- like NSK or other brands.
Good luck everyone.

hi smart dentist......

dont worry abt group discussion.......
..... they wil divide all the students into small groups n give a topic... (not related to dentistry)... somthing abt day to day problems... n then they will ask to discuss.. they want to find out how well u r participating............... this is all coz the program in usc is based on PBL... meaning.. problem based learning........ i belive they wont teach much .. they exppect us to discuss the topics or doubts in a group......

even i got to know abt this through a friend..... hopefully this might help u ..........

Actually in the pre-dental forum this topic gets discussed often. If you're planning to attend an PBL like interview, you should do a search there. I have seen some good PBL explanations.

hi how did you do at usc exam what do you think about it

hi everyone,

there was no one on one interview cause the applicants were just too many to accomodate.
there was only a PBL interview and that was cool...

dexterity test : mandibular second premolar class 2 amalgam DO.

mandibular cental incisor class 3.

maxillary first loar MOD along with a three quarter
crown prepn .

maxillary second premolar PFM crown
with 80% porcelain cowerage...

Thanks for the info dude..DO any one have any idea about the written exam in USC?

It will be an interesting session where in around 8 of the candidates go into a room and are given a Case printed on paper. The Case could be narration of the daily routine of a person that finally ended up having Fever at the end of the day or the events happening in the last 6 months for some one that finally ended up having some other ailment. Looking at the case they expect the participants to discuss and diagnosis. None of the cases require Medical knowledge as such and none of the cases are directly related to any Dentistry knowledge. They analyze you (we all are guesssing) on how well you cope in a team environment, your ability to read and understand printed matter, Ability to analyze and conclude facts stated, Ability to communicate and your Initiative. Most important of all these is your group dynamics. All that I could say is it is Fun to be in those sessions and USC makes sure the exercise is as relaxed as it can be. It is normally advised not to be over powering other team mates and be a more cohesive team player.

hey khurram im all worked up.i dont know if usc has already sent in their interview calls this year.i did not get one in my mail .i had been to the interview last year and thats thedetail i wrote about pfm crowns and stuff..

ya pfm crowns are porcelain fused to metal crowns and they need a different crown cutting preparation compared to gold or all porcelain crowns...

thats cool if u r in pakistan then u can practice on all these and come here...

hi well maybe you should because I received a letter saying that I had to confirm my assistance no later than Oct 8th or they would give the space to the alternate list...
I hope this helps you

I also have an interview with USC, as per their interview details they didnt mention anything about the written test, but they do have english test for those who scored below 250 in TOEFL.
Regd the instruments, can i know what others are going to do for it, is it possible to rent them from somewhere. getting from them seems very expensive. Your inputs are worthly expected. All the best. 👍

in the least they have given a wrong no. for 1 bur.so call to usc and get no. for book store.
i hope this will be helpful to u.

hi pinkindia and pinkpeanuts,

thanks a lot for the instruement list.
You know I dont even know what half of these bur numbers mean, but i presume that they are just the regular ones that are used for crown cutting.
HEy do you have any ideas that if the burs from india would work here.
i know we have to get a different high speed.
I was wondering if the low speed and the burs from india can be used.

let me know if you guys know that.
once again, thanks a lot

take care
