I just got an email from USC.
"Thank you very much for your patience during this very busy time of
year.
After a thorough review process, a decision has been made on your
application to the Keck School of Medicine. Please visit your status
check page at https://keck-admit.hsc.usc.edu to retrieve your decision
letter. You will need your AAMC ID and password to log on. Thank you
again for your interest in the Keck School of Medicine.

Regards,
Office of Admissions
"
Since I didn't interview there, I guess that means a rejection. 👎
Anyone else get this email.

Got the same e-mail, it's hilarious that I can't get onto the USC site though.

Oy, got one too. I suppose today is Axe day.

Yup...got the same email and can't log on to the website. They must still be uploading our letters. Oh well.. 😛

I got through to the "Click here for your decision letter." and then out pops PubMed. That was weird - maybe it's like, you said you would do research if you couldn't do medicine, well let us help you get started! 😀

Ditto.

It's funny how we're all in a hurry to get our rejections 😉

We are like lemmings we are... walking willingly to our own certain doom.

Anyone else shocked by their rejection at USC? Of all my schools, I think this one was the biggest slap in the face. 👎

Does anyone know if MD/PhD rejection will be sent out today as well? And, if we haven't receive any email, does it mean we still have som echance of getting in? im still saying my prayers cause this is my number 1 choise. 🙂

Uff! Yeah I just checked my email and got the axe too...so sad! And this too after I worked at their affiilate (Children's Hospital LA) and got TWO USC attending physicians to write me LOR's. Oh well...I'm gonna start preparing to leave the state! 😡

I understand all of your frustration...NJMS let me have the privilege of downloading my 2 line rejection letter on microsoft word....very rude!!!

A little, I got interviewed at the other three So Cal schools, so it was a bit strange, but this entire process has been so random that it's hard to be fazed by anything anymore.

I love how the e-mail sounds so official, I figured with no interview that the news is not congradulations you made it in, but maybe some poor person thinks that might be the news.

That is in such poor taste to send rejections by email and then have people not be able to get into the site! USC wins for rudest rejection!

So for those who received that email, did you interview at USC?

got the email too 😡

Nope.

Look on the bright side, we now have CLOSURE! 🙂

(when i wrote that, i thought about that episode from Friends where Rachel was drunk on her blind date and she called Ross to tell him that she now has closure. She used a cell phone from the guy at the next table and then throws it in the ice bucket after she hung up with Ross 😀 😀 😀 )

Nope, I sure didn't interview. This letter sucks. It's like we know that it's a subtle rejection, but in the back of our minds we have a little bit of hope...I want in, damn it!

there is no hope. delete the email. i got it too, did not interview.

Dear huduvudu,

Buh bye.

Sincerely,
USC

You know, they could have at least sent a letter.

I agree. For $90/secondary app...i want to know the breakdown of the money that was used in reviewing our files.

Seriously, why couldn't they save us some nerves and time and include their wonderful decision letter in the body of the email? It's like they want to prolong the torture for as long as they can. It's not even funny. I want closure...Call me masochistic, but I want to see them say, "sorry, we don't want you." Was anyone able to get through to the contents of their decision letter. Once we do, let's all post here what verdict was. This stunt has increased the UCLA Bruins/USC trojan HATE 100-fold.

$60 for the cost of never being interviewed
$10 for cookies/lunch that you'll never be given if you were ever interviewed
$10 for the acceptance letter that you'll never receive
$10 for "activation" fee of your application
----
$90

USC handsdown has been the worst rejections that I've seen, this is what the email reads: "hey, thanks for waiting, we finally rejected you, still don't believe us? fine fine, check our crappy website so you could break into tears. Note: no napkins provided. sincerely, admission slackers at USC"

can anyone actually confirm what the "decision letter" says?

no email, but on the website there is a link 'Click here for your decision letter', i click it and i get an error 'There was an error submitting the PDF job : -99'

what does this mean? they are rejecting me, but they are half-assing it?

I guess no one can access it right now...I wonder if it is just because the website is too busy? I don't know...boo trojans. 😡

Hehe... now we're getting the "cannot find server error" ...

hopefully crashed their server... serves 'em right. 😀

if you call admissions (323.442.2552) there's a recording that says "we are currently experiencing problems with our system. it is down for one or two hours...try back later tonight or tomorrow"

looks like norm chow's nfl departure isn't the only problem at usc

Here it is, everyone...

Dear ________:
We are extremely grateful to you, and to thousands of your
colleagues across the country, for applying to admission to the Keck
School of Medicine, Class of 2009.
Grateful - and somewhat overwhelmed.
Nearly 5,500 applied for the 178 spaces, and that means that I am
the bearer of bad news for most applicants. I am writing to tell you
that you are not one of those chosen for an interview. I understand
how painful that may be at the moment. But I am sure that you
understand as well as anyone the reality of the math.
I sincerely hope that you follow your educational dreams at another
medical school. And four years from now, if your residency match
brings you to LAC+USC, please stop by and say hello.
You have my personal thanks for taking the time and effort to apply
to USC, and I know that my colleagues in Admissions and on the
faculty share my gratitude.
Sincerely,

Erin A. Quinn, PhD., M.Ed
Associate Dean for Admissions

$^%$ don't bloody send a written letter. Burns, like davis burned. "Sorry, you weren't worth out paper. We would urinate on you, but you are too far at the time; in summary: suck it."

A tacky email with a condescending tone... mmm, what's for dessert?

wow.. hands down the cheesiest rejection letter yet. Who uses the word "painful" ... I mean really................ 🙄 ....

".....I just saved $1969.14 in stamps!!! Sahweet. I'm going to the racetrack...."

I don't like rejection but I would rather receive a letter that seemed heartfelt than others that just don't seem to care. It's about time I heard from USC.

I also find it really annoying that they didn't even bother to mail it out. I guess you can't expect much from those trojans...

Sorry Long_John, I hope you have better luck with UCSD and others.

Hmmm, yes, I think it's ridiculous they didn't even have the courtesy to spend $0.37 on us...but I think the letter itself is kind of nice. Call me crazy, cheesy, yes, but they were trying to be sensitive. That counts for something.

this is my favorite line! go USC!

Dr. Quinn is the nicest person I have met in this entire process. I'm sorry about the rejections. I also have been collecting them lately 🙁 I don't think the email/print your own rejection letter scheme is appropriate, but at least the letter is genuine.

. . . the year 2010 . . .

ME: "the residency match brings me to LAC+USC, i am stopping by and saying hello"

DR: "hello"

exactly what i was thinking! cheap bastards!!

well... looking on the evironmentally-conscious side... at least they saved a lot of paper. 🙂

I have to say, when I read my rejection letter, it was by far one of the nicest. I actually didn't feel like it was my fault. You know, how letters usually end with statements that pretty much says...

"We're sorry you're not good enough for our school and that you suck...maybe you will make the cut off at some other school that has slightly lower standards. This does not mean that we don't think you don't have the abilities to be a physician but we just don't think that we want your name on any degrees that will be given out by our institution."

So, USC definitely surprised me with their attempt to be sympathetic with is greatly appreciated at this point.
