USC Suppl. Apps: SOOO confusing!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
thank goodness

Hi guys, just answering my own question above...i called usc and we don't need to upload a resume...they said just enter your employment info

Good luck!

Ok....so my friend called usc also and they said you need to upload a resume. I'm so confused because I was told when I called it was not required....BUT just so everyone knows...upload a resume just in case.

My question is : can we go way below 5000 characters, hic hic
I only have around 1200 characters for the number 1,

Does anyone know if USC will read more than 2 letters? I emailed them and they said they were not going to read the PharmCAS letters and that we can submit the same letter if we wish to do so. I wanted to include 3, but I'm not sure if this will be frowned upon because it is not following directions 😕

Yeah, I have the same question too.... I want more because I think the more the stronger.... but I haven't really thought about having more than 2 letters would be considered not following directions... so, can somebody help us a bit here?

Is there a difference between the personal statement that they ask for in the grad application (the one you submit before you can do part 2) and the 2 pharmD prompts? I would assume so since you can't even see the 2 prompts until you submit part 1. But wouldn't that be redundant? Did you guys submit different ones?

I did not do the personal statement for grad application. Isn't that we only have to answer two prompts from the PharmD application?😕😕😕

Since USC application (#1) essentiallly asks the same question as PharmCAS and considering USC does not read the letter of recs on the PharmCAS application, does anyone know if they read the personal statement with PharmCAS? The reason why I ask this is because I've written a pretty comprehensive PharmCAS essay and I don't want to sound redundant. Thanks!

I would like to know the same thing

I would say call on this one. You're right. You definitely don't want to have them reading the same PS twice, but if they don't read PharmCAS you don't want to give them only 1/2 the story assuming they've read the other 1/2. The supplemental this year is very different from last year. It wasn't two parts, no special LORs, extra crap to do. I'm surprised with all this that they even bothered with PharmCAS.

I called USC and the lady told me that USC does not participate in PharmCAS. I told her they do but she kept insisting that they didn't. I didn't want to even bother arguing with her over something this stupid so I just hung up. This situation really pissed me off and I am never calling again for help.

if they "supposedly" don't use PharmCAS, then were we supposed to upload a PS in the "Purpose of Intent" (or whatever it was called) section???
because i didnt...🙁 this is sooo dumb!

It's entirely possible that USC is pulling out of the PharmCAS system. You may want to go up the ladder to the Dean of Admissions directly.

three years ago, I got permission to send in three LORs and was admitted right away (no active consideration list)

I need to ask for permission if I want to send in more LORs? 😕
Thanks for your reply thou.

Since you want to become a pharmacist, I'm going to let you figure that one out.

i'm quite sure USC still uses pharmCAS. it says so all over their website. they've been updating it regularly to include instructions for the 2 step supplemental process, so they'd definitely mention something IF they weren't using pharmCAS anymore.

did you guys put your pharmcas GPA's when the USC graduate supp app asked you for a GPA?
i put my non-pharmcas GPA...which is a lot higher than my pharmcas one. haha. i hope i didn't do it wrong

That is the case for me too, but I put the pharmcas GPA. According to USC's directions, you're suppose to calculate your GPA using PharmCAS guidelines and that's the way the school does it too.

i'm confused....some of you guys say that USC requires 2 LOR's

but the graduate application says that you can send up to 6 LOR's, and the pharmD application doesn't even mention anything bout LOR's

yes it does. it says, "Two letters of recommendation are required, at least one letter from a faculty member and the second from a person who can best describe your capabilities and fitness for a pharmacy education and career. Re-applicants only need to send in one new letter of recommendation."

http://www.usc.edu/schools/pharmacy/pharmd/admission/faqs.html

and you should be putting your pharmcas GPA.
