I applied to both USC and UCLA back in the first batch, and my application status with both schools is still strangely "under review." Like... really? 😕 I just want to know if this really equates a 'silent rejection', or if I am actually still "under review" and stand a chance at a late interview. Despite busting my buns to get everything in as soon as possible, I still have heard zero from either school. I've called and emailed both schools several times to express my interest.

If I'm not under review, and it's a silent rejection, well then... 🙁 that's just frustrating, and I'd like to know what's taking so long to get rejected. Is it realistic to have hope for an interview? Or should I just do a "move on dot org"? Can anybody shed some light on the situation with either of these schools? Thanks.

Hi,

I just recently had an interview at USC and they told me that they are interviewing up until mid-April, and that as of now they are about 60% full (not including those who were just accepted yesterday). I applied late late August, and haven't heard from UCLA though, so I'm assuming it's a silent rejection.

yeah I have not heard from USC either. Been under review ever since their portal opened up. It's been really long.

But do you know if those March/April interviews for USC are only for late applicants? Or do us early-birds have a shot, too?

Well, they said that they give everyone a chance *by reviewing everyones application* even if they applied on the very last day (Feb 15). They also said that they are ending the interview process soon, and I spoke with some people who interviewed with me and said that they sent in their apps in Aug or later. So based on that, maybe just late applicants? You should call them to be sure...don't always want to assume.

Edit where * is

I'm not sure what is your gpa, but for pharm school at USC, my friend told me they categorized groups based on their GPA, so the higher GPA you get earlier notice, despite of being first batch. If that's not the case for you then I don't know.

I think my UCLA chances are at zero percent now 🙁

Sorry, man... I sympathize with you though!
You guys gotta think on the bright side...at least you guys got in somewhere! There are many who have yet to be accepted anywhere.

Not really; I have genuine interest in both schools and just want to know what's up.

Oh. You mean for the other 11 schools you do not have a "genuine interest"? The indications, so far, as to "what's up" is that they do not "have a genuine interest" in you.

Although I'm sure many here appreciate your candor, the misplaced sense of righteousness with which you purposefully, and sarcastically, put other people down is getting kind of old. In a student you see needing a rude awakening or reality check is instead just someone who is worried, curious, and looking for support. If this is the way you speak to everyone (your patients in particular), then I don't see why anyone here should give you the time of day. Just because we're all still years away from having that those 3 letters after our name as they are after yours, doesn't mean it's your place to pick at our self-esteem or wellbeing. Are you similarly rude to your patients when they don't take your comments to heart?

I appreciate your efforts to keep us grounded and illustrate the realities of dental school, the profession, and the exceptional trials and tribulations we inadequately face in light of our meagre, less-than-thou lives. That's all well and good, but if you could just deliver your message with a little more tact, it'd be appreciated.

Berkguy, I'm not sure about USC and UCLA in particular, but at this point I am personally not expecting any more interviews. Though schools are still interviewing, I'd say the application review process is for the most part finished. Maybe call the schools and inquire specifically to find out.

Either way, you should be happy about your UoP acceptance! You get to stay in your hometown. 🙂
