USC vs Arizona

I wouldn't choose any of the two

usc hands down

USC's PBL style doesn't do it for me...nor do the low rates of on-time graduation and the extremely high cost of the school for the lack of clear direction.

Arizona I only know from 2nd hand reports...people say the clinic is a beauty and the people are nice. The classes are all 1-2 weeks long for 8 hours a day...which some people might like. I don't know how much I like the lack of full time faculty...that thing about bringing in an expert to teach for 2 weeks and then the expert leaves is kinda weird.

Ditto

If you ever want to be debt free, go to Arizona. USC is too damn expensive!

Arizona. I wasn't sold on the USC PBL when I visited. I can't imagine paying so much to teach myself. Many people don't graduate on time, Part II boards apparently aren't very good, and if your patient can't pay for their procedure you have to fork out the cash or else you don't graduate. No offence to any USC'ers, it just didn't float my boat. Arizona has great clinical training as well and a strong investment in underserved communities.

did anyone hear that usc might be changing there curriculum since they have a low board pass rate? is this just a rumor?

I'll throw in. Arizona for sure and for many reasons. As a D1 in my first semester at AZ i have never been at school past 5:00 (i know not a good enough reason for many people). I have alot of free time on my hands, the modular class system is easy, I have not been stressed one bit, you take the boards at the end of your first year, brand new facilities, they truly want you to suceed, none of the "Right of passage" BS you might get some where else (the old i had to do it, so now you have to do it), i can keep going and going. I dont want to let to many secrets out here PM me if you want to know more about my experience at AZ. Good luck with the decision.

AZ over USC any day.

Reasons?

1) USC is in the frig'n ghetto
2) USC is close to the most expensive dental school in the nation. AZ not far behind though.
3) PBL blows!!
4) I hate LA

Pro's for AZ
1) You can buy a house with your student aid and make at least 50 grand in equity over 4 years! That area is growing real fast in AZ.
2) Has some PBL but mostly classes.
3) Has an exam every week so you get into a system.

That's PDizzle's 2 cents....

Peace....

I met a USC D4 last week who was supposed have finished dental school last summer but he still has to finish a few procedures, which he can't find the patients for. I don't know about you, but 4 years is long enough.

does anyone know much about WREB? is it easy to take and pass??

They are changing it somewhat...but how much no one is making perfectly clear...or at least...what is changing depends upon who you ask. Basically they are adding more "learning sessions" (forgive me but I forgot what special name they have for it, so that's my best guess). The school refuses to call these "learning sessions" class lectures, but it's just semantics...basically they are planning to add more lecture hours so the students will have more time with a professor actually professing knowledge...but the PBL session formats aren't supposed to be changing at all.
