USC vs. Loma Linda vs. University of Colorado

I would choose Colorado. Not only is it an excellent program, it's an awesome state to be in and gives you a different experience than living in CA. Colorado also has the ACTS program for your final year so you get to choose a participating clinic in Colorado to work on patients in a real life work setting, WITHOUT having to pay for expenses besides you meals (at least from what I heard). The school has new facilities, and gives back to student veterans by offering free dental work without having them pay a single penny. How awesome is that?! USC is an amazing school, but the cost of it is just too overwhelming. Don't know much about Loma Linda, so I can't give much insight on that school. Good luck with your decision!

Lol, I interviewed at Colorado but haven't gotten in yet. Even if I got in, I'll still be turning it down because it was my second choice. I got into my #1, but damn…it'll be one of the hardest no's I'll have to say if I got into Colorado because it was such a close battle between #1 and #2!

Then I will happily take it off your hands mate!

Thanks for your insight, I appreciate it. I definitely loved the vibe of the school. I wonder tho, do you think I would have a hard time coming back to practice in California?

I don't think so, a dental school is a dental school. It'll do the same thing, which is allowing you to practice. If anything at all, USC would probably be your best bet with referrals due to strong alumni connections (but again, this would probably be a very small advantage for going to school in Cali).

Colorado.
USC = $$$ unless HPSP or rich parents.
Loma Linda = no caffeine, no meat diet on campus. Mandatory Wednesday service (or was it bible study). There were rumors about people not graduating on time due to lack of patients (you would have to research about this for concrete answer).

really??? they cant bring meat to school? what happens if you do...? lol

Just chiming in to remind people that ADEA's OOS Colorado tuition is in error and that you should look at the school's tuition/fees estimates on their website.

(Broke my heart when I noticed the difference.)

haha.. well

yes me too, I did notice that. It is not that much less than going to a private school here, but it is still a little less even when taking in to account living and traveling expenses. .. but Colorado is sooo nice!

haha... well I was told on my interview from a non SDA student that you actually can bring coffee and meat on to campus and that you will not be judged or thrown out.. phew

I like Loma Linda because of the quality education and not being in LA. A Much better location and it will prepare you for dentistry. USC talks about alumina support but??? I was a non SDA and it was never an issue. My practice is now in Yorba Linda and I run a free clinic in Los Angeles. PM- if you want more info or volunteer experience.

Just a heads up, I volunteer at a dental residency clinic, and there was a resident from USC....she said she didn't enjoy her time at USC. And when I assisted with her, I didn't agree with alot of her decisions on how she should have worked with the patient. That's just me though. (alittle back ground, ive been volunteering as a DA at the residency clinic for 3 years and she was one of the first where I was hesitant on her decisions on the patient)

Colorado by far. Outside of the school you have awesome weather and an endless amount of stuff to do.
Thank you so much for your thoughts, I really appreciate it. Like I said before, I just worry I would have a hard time coming back to LA area and finding a job.

Hi Dr. Rogers, I appreciate your input. I would love to keep gaining exposure of the field before I begin. Do you have any thoughts on Colorado Dental School?

Ive heard that Loma Linda offers a great clinical education but sometimes leaves its D3 and D4 students with a short supply of patients. Can anyone please clear this up for me as its a school I'm considering as well.
