USC's minimum GPA

Hey guys,

I am wondering if anybody here has gotten into USC pharmacy school with a sub 3.0 GPA. They say that the minimum overall GPA considered is 3.0. My pharmcas GPA is 2.97, which is lower than my transcript GPA due to them averaging the grades for a repeated course. My science does meet the requirement of 3.0 but am I automatically rejected due to my overall being sub 3.0? anyone know?

This years average class gpa was 3.5. So it's getting more and more competitive. Everyone I have talked to seems to have a really high gpa. But I am sure there are people with a 3.0 that got in, I just havent met them yet. Just make sure your extracurriclulars are steler. Might wanna retake some classes that you might of gotten C's in too.

Sorry to break it to you, but here's my story. I applied to USC last year with a 3.1 cum and 2.8 sci and wasn't granted an interview. The minimum for pre-reqs was a 2.75 last year. They increased it this year. Anyways, I had 4 yrs of pharmacy experience and a year of research, and graduated w/my BS from a competitive UC. I don't think USC even considered my app b/c of my GPA. I'm reapplying this year with a 3.00 sci. We'll see how that goes.

All my friends tell me that USC is really big on GPA. This is b/c you have to maintain either a 3.0 or 3.2 (I forgot) in their pharmacy classes.

And to answer your question- they won't automatically reject you like Colorado does. I just got a letter in April saying that I wasn't invited for an interview.

You should apply to USC and become a proud SC alum.. at least you can root for a decent football team..

I know my chances are slim but after your posts I think I will still go on with their supplemental app hopefully retaking some courses will be better. zpack what were your stats when you got into USC?

and cycloketocaine, what were yours?

3.65 GPA
BS in Biochem

No experience in pharmacy

But this was in 1991.

I have to agree that they are big on GPA, but they are also extremely big on interviews. I am not sure about the cut-offs though, I dont think there were any when I was applying

Really? My stats are very similar to your last year stats and I was granted an interview for November 18th. The letter was dated October 18th.

i believe that the 3.0 applies to the gpa usc calculates (based on your trasncrpt). they only look at the prereq classes they require and they do take the highest grade (if you have retaken a class).

as for your chances, it really depends on multiple factors such as grades, how active/involved you are at school, any working experience, your personal statement, and your interview. i would recommend that you submit your applications as early as possible (it's getting kind of late this admission cycle). usc is at a rolling basis and it just gets alot more competitive as the clock ticks.
