Hello all. I'm a pre-dent and was hoping to receive dental student and practicing dentists' opinions. At first, dentistry seems interesting working with precious things. However, if you think about it, the mouth and teeth seems like really tight quarters, especially if your patient has a smaller mouth. Over time, do you get used to small quarters and learn the manual dexterity for such tight space in dental school?

THANK YOU!

Get loupes. It makes the mouth a lot bigger 🙂

You get used to it. There will be patients with really tight cheeks, small mouths, and tongues that won't sit still but you find ways around it.

One of my favorite one-liners is for when I'm working in a tight space on a female patient.

"You know, it wasn't until I became a dentist that I ever had to tell a woman her mouth was too small."

It goes over much better than you might expect.

I suppose working on mannequins for a year helps you get used to tight quarters. Nice!
