I am still a PGY1 resident, but I want to know whether doing fellowships after EM is useful, especially financially? like is it worth it doing 2 years in EMS or toxicology? is the increase in pay significant?

another question, say I do EMS and then I don't like it too much or I find it gets me less pay/hour, can I work as an emergency physician like an EM attending or I am stuck with my fellowship and have to work in its field?

My understanding is that neither of these two will increase your pay, but will give you an additional realm in which to work.

If you decide you don't like tox or EMS you can always just pull shifts, but hopefully you'll have done your homework before deciding to pursue the fellowship.

No fellowship will directly earn you more money. You will not get hired for a higher salary than another residency trained EP.

They may provide other valuable things for your career, like getting a particular job you want, diversifying your practice activities, having an academic area of expertise, etc.

But money is not usually the driving reason to do a fellowship.

I think the OP is going to get banned for trolling, because, if he is not trolling, he is not defending his case. I mean, if I felt I was being misrepresented, I would explain myself, and this person isn't. Oh well.

3 Posts - all of them starting threads - all of them probably trolls.

Strong work indeed.

You won't have time to have a sexual relationship with your wife if you do a fellowship.

Seriously guys? I am not trolling, I am just a new member to these forums, I found them just few days ago that's why I might seem like a troll by not replying to your replies

Thanks for those who took this seriously and answered my question 🙂

Okay, I'm going to further call you out as a troll.

Anyone who knows how to post also knows how to reply. I'm (we're) not buying your excuse of 'I just found them a few days ago LOLZ', because if you're actually in the EM field, then you're not a $hit-chucking ape, and can figure it out yourself.

Second. There's no North Dakota EM program. No idea how you thought that you could get this by the academic hard-hitters here. Dont' bother to backtrack and say that you wanted to maintain your anonymity. You could've done that without ever naming a region/program.

Third. Any FMG/IMG that is 'beginning (his?) EM residency' had better goddamned-well thought about the pros/cons of EM before signing-on for 3-4 years, and would not post a question such as "I heard ER docs get suued like lotz, iz this true KTHXBYE?"

Fourth. Your 'does EM give me time to have sexytimes with my wife?' thread is ... a;sldkfjapoiejf;asildjfadj;aldsm
