If i major outside of the sciences, would it be more useful to minor in a science just to make sure i have all the necessary classes to keep me competitive on the mcat?

The necessary classes you need to do well on the MCAT are the prereqs. You need to take them to get into med school anyway.

I personally don't think a science minor is useful, but that's just me.

If declaring a minor gives you priority to register for prerequisites and some upper-level Bio and Biochem coursework (which some med schools require/recommend) that might otherwise be difficult to get into, then go for it.

If you complete all the coursework required for the MCAT you should have the basis to do just as well as anyone else on the exam. The MCAT does not have any expectation of further coursework, given that you study the material expected to be known in enough detail.

Also, medical schools don't care about your major/minor.
