Hello-
I am a Florida resident applying to the Florida schools. The new program at FSU sounds very exciting. I would also be interested in hearing about matriculate stats for FSU and USF, as well as any other pertinent advice from those recently accepted or attending. Thanks!
According to the Princeton Review book on medical schools and the MSAR, USF's average GPA and MCAT for matriculated students last year was a 3.7 overall, a 3.7 science, and a 30 MCAT.
I'm also a FL resident and heard that this past year FSU took in approximately 1000 applications for about 50 slots. I have no idea on the MCAT and GPA b/c that's not published yet, but USF took about 2,000 applicants for almost 100 spots. FSU should see a huge increase in their applications with AMCAS and will probably increase their enrollment. USF and FSU will probably be similar in their competitiveness, but I would guess USF will still be more difficult to get into during the first few years. FSU is placing an emphasis on geriatric and rural medicine.
