I have a question for you... I have been getting a lot of mixed information about how USF regards this program when applying to USF the same year. For the most part people say that chances of admission to USF are higher if you apply after the program is completed, but quite a few also said that chances are pretty good if you have a strong track record already to get into the same year. How in the world does this work if USF doesn't take updates during the app cycle? Are these people saying that they got into USF not because of the IMS program but because of their grades and scores? Why even apply to this program at all if somebody could do that?
Great question! So, IMS students still apply through the same process as all other applicants, however, our timeline for application is a little different. Usually, you would want to apply to medical school about 14 months in advance (so June-ish) but our program starts in June, and we wouldn't have any grades from the medical school classes until December. The USF MCOM admissions told us that if we are applying during the program that we are to fill out our AMCAS any time before its deadline but to wait to turn in our USF secondary until its deadline of January 5th. This way we are able to include our fall grades. IMS students are not at a disadvantage for applying "late" and our applications are pretty much reviewed right away. We are advised to apply to other schools as well but to apply to them early and hope your pre-IMS record is strong enough, or to just apply to them after the program and take a gap year.
I have also heard that they just started taking grade updates (pre-interview) from students in the Pre-Professional track Masters in Medical Sciences program (the 250 student program) who are applying during the program. I can't say that's for sure, but that's what I've heard from other students in that program.
