Usf Ims????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did anyone hear anything today?

No, I didnt hear anything...is it true that they will consider the IMS ppl for the other programs too?

informational meeting was late january.

I highly doubt they will consider IMS applicants for any other programs unless you have made the effort to apply for that program as well. It would not make any sense as the application criteria and programs itself are completely different.

Hey yall,

just to update, I got an email from the other medical masters programs (not IMS) telling me that my application was not complete and that I should apply to the other programs, 🙁 I'm guessing that means they found out I got rejected before I did. Well at least they let me know in a good way!

Thanks for the update. Did you meet the minimum requirements to apply for the IMS (22 MCAT, 3.0 GPA)? That might be why they let you know so early.

I don't think there was a minimum requirement. Those gpas and mcat scores are more of a guideline as to where your academic numbers should be. I know applicants who applied with a lower than 3.0 gpa, but a higher mcat and vice versa.

True, but I just don't see someone getting into the IMS without at least the minimum scores for the other master programs. Anywho, we'll see shortly. I am starting to think I should have applied to the IMS too.

AWhiteHair,

Which program did you apply to?? I have my secondary package finished to submit, I just haven't chosen a program yet. It's between Molecular Medicine and Anatomy right now, and I am leaning towards Anatomy, however, I hear they only accept 15 students, so my chances would probably jump if I applied to molecular medicine as they accept i think 70. What do you think?

I applied to the Molecular Medicine program for the exact reason you mention above. I wanted to increase my chances of getting an acceptance. I can't say what you should do, as I don't know anything about your file. If you have a good MCAT, and 3.2+ GPA, I would say apply to the Anatomy program, if that is what you are interested in. Just my .02 :luck:

Has anybody received any word from the IMS program. I have been out of the country for the last week and was hoping that I would have an email when I got back, but I received no such email. I am figuring that if I haven't heard anything yet, then I probably am not going to be accepted. I will keep my fingers crossed.

still havent heard anything either 🙁

I also applied to Drexel MSP and Barry Biomedical Sciences Master's Program..just waiting on the recommendations now...so we will see what happens...I think we will all hear about IMS on the 15th.

When is the deadline for Barry?

umm..its in july...but that there really isnt a deadline bc its rolling admissions

I guess we will hear tomorrow...you think maybe the emails will be sent out at midnight tonight?

Do you think that since we have not heard, we must be rejected. You would think that they would need some time to sort out new candidates in place of those that turn down the acceptance. Either way, I guess we will hear tomorrow...hopefully midnight tonight.

I really don't know what is going on really...i dunno..maybe they did already send out acceptances..

I sure hope not. Do you think it is possible to do the other 1 yr masters and still get an acceptance for '09 at a traditional MD school? I have a mediocre GPA (3.35) and will need take the MCAT again over the summer. I am really worried about doing the other grad program due to the possibility of losing a year.

umm..i am not sure..I only looked into the programs that were actually like the first year of med school since I have a really high GPA but a not so good MCAT. So I applied to IMS bc it is supposedly better if you want to increase your credientals. I also applied to Drexel MSP bc they help you improve MCAT. But if I dont go to Drexel then ya I will retake MCAT this summer. Since you might need to work on GPA then ya the other programs might be a good fit for you. You can apply to med school and they will see you are in the program. Then when you get grades in send it to the schools. This is what I was adviced to do if I go to Barry.

How do you recommend studying for the MCAT?

we will hear tomorrow morning, good or bad. either way, we'll all be fine.

I don't recommend any particular way to study for the MCAT. I have read through all of the posts on here about it, but it all seems to come down to what works for each individual. When I decide to re-take, I am going to spend more time on practice tests via the Kaplan online course. I also have the Exam Cracker review books. This time around, I will probably cancel my logins for SDN. I will have to limit all of my distractions.

anyone hear anything yet?? what are they waiting for?

nope have not heard anything yet. This is killing me...

seema isn't answering her phone either. how annoying.

Deep breaths everyone. They are reviewing today too, so we might not here until late this afternoon. Get away from your computer and go do something that will get your mind off it. :hardy:

nothing here either...this blows

I called and they said either later this afternoon or tomorrow morning...ahh I cant take this anymore...

nothing,

i just wanna hear something!

I thought they said the deadline was today?

ya the deadline was today...but thats what the lady told me on the phone. Either they will send out emails later today or tomorrow morning... ahh.

im waiting to hear from usf ims too... its already so late u think we r going to have to go through this torture till tom???? ahhh... good luck everyone🙂

the wait continues...

has anyone received an email?? do they even email if you've been rejected? ahhhh... they wouldn't wait until tomorrow to tell us, right? they said april 15th.

And I thought I was the only one stressing about this!🙂 Looks like tomorrow will be another eventful day of hitting the refresh button!

Who know what they will do. I thought that they would have told us before today, considering the timeline was already extended. I heard that the med school sort of pushes this program aside. The med school interviews IMS students at the end of the application cycle after they have interviewed the other traditional applicants. They end up losing some of the better IMS students this way.

yeah, but they said no interviews... which can be unfair to some people. i would think they'd at least send an email saying that they need more time to review applications and we have to wait longer to get an answer. i have heard the same thing- that the med school kinda ignores this program till the very end b/c the med school applicants are their priority. i wonder how many people applied... i went to that jan. information session too and they said 13 electronic applications had been submitted, but there probably were a lot of procrastinators.

So is this program only to go to USF med school or can you get into other schools with it too? Also, do you hve to reapply to the med school when u are in this program? How does it work?

no, you can go to any med school. ims doesn't guarantee acceptance into usf com. yep, you have to reapply to med school and go through amcas in the summer.

do u know of other programs like this one at different schools

i think drexel and georgetown are the more well known ones. i think boston university might also have a similar master's program but it's 2 years. and i thought i heard that fsu had something like this too, but i'm not sure. barry university is another one... it's a master's program, not ims.

Wow...thanks so much! That's so helpful! 🙂

:barf: to the unprofessionalism of this program

but I think I'm staying 😎
