Although I’m waitlisted at Tech, I feel that I’m getting off soon and for the past month I’ve made no progress in deciding between these two schools. I’m a Texas resident which makes Texas tech less than 1/4 the cost of USF, the main pro , but I’ll make the list.
USF :
Pros - accepted to the SELECT program which focuses on leadership to address healthcare disparities, which is what I want to do. 2 years in Florida and 2 years in Pennsylvania
-Tampa/Allentown have much more to offer than Lubbock/midland/Odessa (all rural)
-brand new medical campus opening officially January 2020, my second semester there
Cons - much more expensive than tech
-out of state/no family in florida
-Separate from most of the student body after 2 years to study in Pennsylvania
-ranked lower academically
TTUHSC
Pros - in state, extremely affordable
- family nearby
- friends in the area
-ranked higher academically
Cons- in the middle of nowhere, and after 2 years , rotations are completed in other towns also in the middle of nowhere
-school emphasizes primary care, not exactly my focus
-not a diverse a city/town outside of the student body at all
Any and all input is appreciated, thanks!
