Has anyone heard anything about the University of South Florida's plans to start a PharmD program. I've seen very little to this point, only that they will begin classes 2011 with their first class set to graduate 2015. I live here in Tampa so a program at USF would be great, plus I hope to start school in 2011 thought 2012 may be more realistic.

I can't find anything about their prereqs? Has anyone read anything about them or the school in general? Would you assume they would have the same prereqs as University of Florida?

Does anyone know anything about the relative difficulty of getting into new schools? I assume they will probably only start with small classes, less than 100? USF already has pretty good med and nursing schools so their transition into pharm probably will be smooth and I would imagine it gives them a higher chance of being competitive right away. Thoughts.?

I hope there hasn't been a thread about this already.

Hello WatoFLA,

I saw that you were asking about the USF pharmacy school they will open in 2011. I am currently a USF student pursing pharmacy as well. This past Thursday Dr. Kevin Sneed who is the assistant dean and director at USF's clinical pharmacy spoke about the new pharmacy program they will be opening. The prereqs follow UF's outline except with the addition of macroeconomics or microeconomics. They will accept 50 students in 2010, 75 students in 2012 and 100 in 2013. Every year after each new class will have a maximum of 100 seats. USF is definitely going to be very competitive. They are going to require a minimum of 3.0 GPA both overall and math/science.

I hope this helps.

They have the same pre-reqs as UF? You have to take Physics I and II and A&P I And II?

At least that's a good weeding tool... but will students be eligible for federal loans since it's not accredited? Is the college going to located in the St Pete/Tampa area, or out in Lakeland? There are so many rumors...

Lakeland believe...I don't know about the loans. They require Biochem too I think..and genetics (which can be done during first year).
