Using abbreviations in the personal statement

I did run a search on this, so blah.

When writing the PS, is it ok to use abbreviations for terms they'd probably be familiar with like EMT and ICU, or BS (the degree, not the other thing)

Things like EMT, ICU sound fine to me. I wouldn't use any medical abbrevations though.

I can't imagine they would mind especially for common medical related acronyms but if you have the space might as well treat it like a journal article. In that case, identify the abbreviation initially as in, "When I worked in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)..." and from that point use the abbreviation.

I read that adcoms like it if you do your entire personal statement in "IM speak". They said that it really shows how in-touch you are with today's youth and modern technologies.
