Hey SD,

I placed out of Chemistry I and II using my AP 5 score at university. I did call up every school I'm applying to and ask their policy on this and they all said (1) if I took other higher level science courses with lab (2) have done research and it shows on my transcript (3) have taken orgo or biochemistry (4) it shows that I got credit for it on my transcript, everything is a-ok.

Problem: :scared: I JUST realized that my school's official transcript just tells you the total number of credits I received using my AP credit and NOT THE NAME OF THE COURSES, meaning the schools that receive my transcript won't see that I got credit for Chem I/II through AP.

My school's registrar said they'll mail a letter to anyone clarifying this. Do you think this is enough? Has anyone been through this or know something that could help me specifically?

Thanks!

that might be a problem. I don't know for sure though. My school listed the name of the course that the AP class counted for and the number of credits it was good for and it all counted freshman year. So other than the AP score it looked like I took 50 credits in fall of freshman year or something wierd. But like I said all the names showed up. Maybe have them send the letters.

Running everything through interfolio helps a ton.

Is there a possibility that you could take gen chem 1 and 2 before you graduate?

I am asking this because I am not sure how exactly the verification of your AMCAS will be done in your case. Since the course names are not on your transcript, you cannot put AP Chem on the AMCAS course page. But, if you didn't put any AP course name there but AMCAS gets the letter from your registrar, I highly doubt that AMCAS will add those course names for you.

A similar thing happened to one of my friends, and she has to take gen chem after her graduation before she matriculates to a med school that she got accepted..

Sounds like acceptance isn't a problem except that I just have to take it before matriculation, huh? I guess I may be willing to take it this summer but it can't be at a community college, correct?

Yes, that's correct.

You can take them anytime, but just do so before matriculation. If possible, you can also indicate those future courses in AMCAS, so that adcoms will know.
