Using up to date?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I see people talk about up to date, is this free or do I have to pay for it?

It is a subscription service. A lot of schools and a lot of health care facilities have accounts with Up To Date. A great resource.

Most schools have it available through their library. At my school it's one of the few online resources you have to access from on campus, as opposed to by proxy at home.

That said, we've been told that the joke about it is that it should be called "Not Up to Date". It is a good resource, though. I have only used it when required to, because there are so many other resources available to me while I'm not on campus.

Obviously people at your school tell terrible jokes (because it's not funny...just in case you don't understand how jokes work).

I wouldn't buy it for myself, but since our library offered it to us for free I did use it for pathology reports. It was good for inputting some key symptoms to get an idea of a differential and then I'd go look up the diagnoses in Harrison's to decide whether I'd use them or not.

Medscape is a great alternative to Uptodate and medscape happens to be free (and comes with a mobile app for drug reference too).
