Hi All,

What PM&R programs do you think are realistic match goals for U.S. students with USMLE scores below 200? The '06-'07 Match Outcomes showed a moderate number of students matching with low scores; can anyone offer some suggestions or sources for further information? Also, can anyone offer any ideas as far as a game plan or strategy for applying with low board scores? I'm curious also about cut off points for programs.

you will probably need to apply to a large number of programs all over the us

From what I've heard, 200 is the low cutoff for many programs. You may not have the flexiblility of being region specific.

Make sure your clinical scores are good to great, and take a month to study for step 2 and prove that the big tests are not an issue (Residencies don't want residents who might be a liability when it comes to the credentialing exams/boards.

No program will admit to catering to low scoring candidates, but in PM&R they do a good job of looking at your whole application.
