I am just wondering if anyone has used or is currently using USMLE Consult for Step 2. I will probably end up getting USMLE World, but I came across USMLE Consult today, and I am wondering if it is worth it. Thanks!

I am wondering the same thing. It seems that it would have to be outstanding to top USMLE World, though.

Yeah, I ended up purchasing USMLE Consult for 3 months. So far, I find it is a great study tool. If I get a question wrong (or right), it has explanations for each answer selection, as well as "High Yield" information on the topic. What I like about the High Yield Information, it comes directly from textbooks (it sites it's references). In addition to that, when you review your test, it indicates the topic of the question (e.g. Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus). It links you to MdConsult, so you can look up the topic (although your access is limited to the topic). To gain access to the whole topic and/or different books, journals or articles, you will need a subscription to MdConsult.

So all in all, I find that it is a good study tool. My subscription ends in June. For the last month before I take boards in July, I'll be using USMLE World. All the best!

I am currently participating in a survey panel and so far seem to be finding the questions on par with ones I've used with USMLE World. The setup is a little different and the answers are more "high yield" compared to the very wordy answers in world.

Anyway if anyone has any questions about it I have a contact I can ask and get back to you if that helps, it is relatively new so I'm sure people have them, I know I did.

Also, not sure if I can post it here, they gave us a code for 20% off that we are allowed to share. So if you want it use the private message feature and i'll send it to you.

The two services are from the same company but they are under different subscriptions. Just like MD consult offers a trial USMLE consult does as well. http://usmleconsult.com/about/freetrial.cfm but it is limited to 30 questions.

If you are interested in getting USMLE consult I have a 20% discount code, if you message me i'll send it to you.

yeah i saw that. and signed up for the 30 free q's.. although i liked the q's i felt their explinations were a little weak and i really didn't like the high yeild notes. a lot of the time they're taken directly out of a text book that's way too much for the USMLE and they talk about things that are totally irrelevant and won't be asked on the exam . here's a little sample of some of their "high yeild facts" I personally think it's too detailed.

"The Adenoviridae are DNA viruses of intermediate size, which are classified into subgenera A to F. The virion has an icosahedral coat (capsid) made up of 252 subunits (capsomers) of which 240 are "hexons" and 12 are "pentons." The hexons have a cross reacting antigen common to all mammalian adenoviruses. The penton confers type specificity, and antibody to it is protective. Adenoviruses can also be classified by their characteristic DNA "fingerprints" on gels after being digested with restriction endonucleases, and this classification generally conforms to their antigenic types."
