I understand that if i take step2 in say october, then I have the option if i want the scores to be automatically transmitted to programs or not. However, I'm filling out my app and not sure what the question is asking. Is it about my prior step 1 scores(in which case i would select yes) or is it about step 2(which I would want to say no and see the score first).

USMLE Release Permission
Initial release instructions:

Do you authorize the NBME to transmit your USMLE transcript to designated programs?
Yes

No
Select Yes if you want your examination results sent to the programs as you designated in the Programs section.

Select No if you do not want your examination results sent to the programs you designated.

You want to say Yes to the first question (which applies to prior scores) and No to the second question (which applies to future scores). Once your new scores come in, you can always choose to re-release and it will update your transcript.

Thanks but I only see that one question on the usmle transcript page on eras?

This is a change to ERAS this year.

There is no automatic release option any longer. You must manually release your scores if you have future results come in.

Thanks for this info. But, how do we "manually" release the scores? Is there an option somewhere where we can do this?

I have a very important question. I am a US IMG and I just graduated. I am taking my step 3 next week to get it out of the way. But I do NOT want my score to be released to the programs. Does it mean programs will not know I took step 3 nor they will know my score unless I click Retransmit button??

Retransmit Instructions
To retransmit your USMLE transcript when new scores are available -
YOUR ACTION IS REQUIRED

Click on the Retransmit button to have your updated transcript sent to ALL programs that previously received it.

You can click on Retransmit only ONCE a day - this button will be disabled for 24 hours after you make your request.

so the programs will not get our new scores automatically NOR know we have taken new usmle?

thanks I just want to be 100% sure, I just want to get done w step 3....my exam was on Monday ERAS closed..my two options were to take after match or delay by 2 weeks...

I guess I will take it now as programs will not find out...hopefully
