is there any way of knowing how many questions there are roughly per system on the usmle world question bank?

Derrrrrrr. It is right next to the individual system when you set up your test.

since the op got his question answered Im going to hijack the thread with another uworld question 😀, roughly how long does it take to answer a 48 question block and go over answers in detail?

Generally I've heard it takes an hour to do the questions and probably 1-2 hours to go over the answers depending on how quickly you find the reference in First Aid and how much you want to write. So I would guesstimate ~3 hours?

That is a question that is very variable depending on the student. A set of 48 do them timed and then review would take me no more than 2 hours, but I also probably gain a few minutes and don't use the whole hour. I know other people who it takes 3 or even 4 hours because they go slower or spend alot of time on the explanations. I skim some but just on the fraction that i know really well(maybe 1/3).

it takes me around 4 hours for 48 questions. i do 96 questions a day--which means 7 to 8 hours...

I'm in the same boat. I do 24 questions a day right now which takes me 2 hours. I do them on tutor and read all the explanations, find the corresponding page in FA, check to see if FA already has the info., and then write/draw stuff into the margins if necessary. I plan to do two sets of 48 questions during Spring Break which should most likely take 7-8 hours.

I think the average is 2.5 to 3 hours based on random observation. To the guys/gals taking longer, I think it is because they are doing USMLE World before there dedicated Step 1 study time. If you wait and do U Wolrd when you are in high gear and have seen just about everything that there is to see from the first two years of Med School, you will be faster. Just do random timed blocks of 48 and then check your answers. ~3hours is reasonable.

Keep in mind, that you also get a lot faster at doing questions/reading explanations. I started of doing blocks of 48 over a period of 4 hours. Now, I can crank out 2 blocks of 48 with in 5 hours. This is all random, tutor-mode questions.

i am about to be 50% through UW (doing tutor mode, random, unused q). I am scoring a 55% cumulative. in some test i score a 66% and in the other i end up with just a 54%. this is such a wide variation. though i have not started with dedicated studying but still it seems like i dont have a solid platform. anyone to comment on this.

It depends on the questions you get. I'm sure there are some you're getting where you're going...damn it I don't know this pathway, etc....A...NEXT and you end up getting 10 of these in a row.

I really think it depends on what you know. However, if this isn't the case for you, then I think the problem lies in understanding what the question is asking you. Sometimes a very simple question get phrased in a very complicated way.

I just started using UWorld last week, and I totally agree with Badasshairday when he says that you'll get better once you actually get a chance to study everything. I started last week doing all subjects but only choosing GI and Hepatobiliary as the organ block choices (since we just finished it). I realized I was sucking majorly on any Biochem. questions but when I read the explanations and checked FA, most of the answers were in FA. I think once I actually read through FA even just once (which I hope to do during Spring Break), some of the questions/answers should look a little familiar. As the above posters said, once crunch month comes around and I'm in full gear, I'm hoping my scores on these 48q sets and the time it takes me to complete them will get better.

true.
i get most questions from behavioral, biostats, viral pharm, anti-arrythmic drugs, and anatomy and neuro wrong in general. simply because i dont remember these parts. hope my score jumps once i do these topics. no idea how much of a difference these topics may be making.
but yes, when i happen to get biostats and beavioral questions right i score in 60s
