For those of you who got a 230+ on Step 1, what would you recommend for a 2nd question bank (to use Dec - Mar) in addition to USMLEWorld?

I think it's a good idea to do 2. I think Kaplan and USMLE world really compliment each other. Do Kaplan Qbank first to learn all the stupid little facts. Then do USMLEWorld last to really learn the stuff and make all the associations.

In my opinion, Kaplan is best early on in your study. I used it during the school year. Then review plus kaplan. The last 5 weeks I pretty much just did USMLEWorld and the NBME's. The combo of the qbanks got me 250's on the NBME forms but I still don't have my results yet so I could still pull in a 200 and all this advice could be crap!

I second this.

Hey guys,

when people say that they use Qbank during the school year, does this mean you purchased it for 6 months instead of 3? I could not find anything on their website where you can purchase Qbank for more than 6 months.

Thanks!

Yeah, I actually bought 6 months - which was way too much. But then they had some weird error, canceled my subscription and deleted my account, and refunded my credit card! I made a big fuss about it and got a brand new subscription for 3 months at the price of one! Lost all my progress but I didn't care. So it worked out really well for me to not have to pay the $500 for the 6 months. 3 months was plenty.

Kaplan came to my school early and if you signed up then, they gave you 3 months free. We got 9mo for the price of 6mo.

How do you guys use a Qbank during 2nd year when there is so much a second year student doesn't know yet?

We have an organ segment based approach. So I knew a few people who would do QBank questions for that organ segment prior to taking the test.

They said it helped and they did well. However, they were all pretty smart people and studied hard anyway, so your mileage may vary.

As far as questions, my plan is to the following starting March:
Qbank, USMLEWorld, NBMEs, RR Qbook, NMS, Pretest clinical vingettes, Blueprints Q&A, Blackwells online exam

and the following during the school year:
Robbins Review, BSS, Kaplan Q-book, , Appleton & Lange

wow lots of overkill on this post. also, im not a big fan of studying over an extended period of time. learning the material VERY well during the school year should suffice. you can still fit in two qbanks in the 6-8wks you have to study strictly boards (I did and many here have). I mean if you study over 9 months, you're going to forget information the same way you forget everything after any big exam. the way to do well on this test is to organize your studying scheme into one succint package that enables you to peak on the day of the exam. if you peak before, you're just going to be playing catchup all the time to maintain that level.

some people are very smart, always do things right and don't need much studying. Some other people are not the brightest in the bunch and need a LOT of practice and repetition. I am i the latter group and I know life is unfair.

i agree ,i did 3 qbanks, yes i know ,i took it to new level.. but i love doing questions, i can concentrate longer which = more hours put in. hey if you can sit down and read a book like FA or kapan for 8 hours go for it. if u cant like me, than just do every Q bank out there what the hell. just as long as u keep reading something. and not read nap read nap. ..eat.. 🙂

What have you summoned me for?

"how do you guys use qbank in 2nd year"??? i dont understand the question.isnt that exactly when ur suppose to start .owell forget it

Not at the beginning of 2nd year

If you have systems based curriculum and can find a qbank that will give you Qs only from a system you have already covered, then you may start earlier. Other than that it makes no sense.
