I have no idea what happened coz i must have had good stats for them to call me for an interview. I must have messed up on my interview. Lets just say i wasnt really reallllllly ready and desperate like I am this year.
Anyway not impressives stats 3.67 Gpa, Pharm Tech Exp, volunteer work and some fun personality.
Accepted Pacific university class of 2010

Is anyone interviewing at the Utah campus? Or is there anyone who would like to attend the Utah campus as their first choice?

I would like too!

I was told by Dr. DeYoung, a few months ago, that they will hold interviews at the Utah campus in Feb and March. The majority of the interviews, some of which begin this month, will be held at the main campus in Henderson, Nevada. He also said it doesn't matter which campus you interview at. For example, you could interview in Nevada and still prefer the Utah campus or vice versa.

Later.

Hi all..I got an interview on jan 20. However, I'm just a sophomore in college and still got organic 2 and microbiology to complete for USN. I have a 4.0 gpa. What are my chances of getting in and how would they compare my gpa with those who have completed all prereqs...

I would say very good (USN likes 4.0's) just take those classes this spring and u should be good to go.Since they called u for interview,i figure they like ur stats so far.So just kick ass in ur interview and u should be goodto go.
Good luck on ur interview.

Hey everybody,
I know the application deadline for application materials to be postmarked is "officially" Jan. 12, but I'm getting into this a little late in the game. I have requested transcripts, worked on essays and can get my app in by the deadline, but I wonder how competitive I would actually be if I applied for fall 2007. My stats are: GPA 3.6, Bachelor's in nursing with 4 yrs experience as a nurse, but no experience in pharmacy, and I'm halfway through my prereqs, but can finish them by fall 2007. I figure it can't hurt to apply, but I know my GPA is lower than the avg. for USN, and I want to be realistic. I'd just like to know everyone's thoughts on how competitive I am, whether I should apply this year, and if not, what I can do to be a better applicant next year? Also, is USN "non-traditional" student friendly?

Last year i sent my Application like on Jan 9th or like last week of application and they still called me for an interview in the middle of march. So late applicants still get invites.

My stats are: GPA 3.6, Bachelor's in nursing with 4 yrs experience as a nurse, but no experience in pharmacy, and I'm halfway through my prereqs, but can finish them by fall 2007.

U have to have finished ur pre reqs by end of summer b4 the class begins in the fall.So i dont think u r safe there.Maybe u can try and finish b4 fall. Also i think having a degree gives u extra points but some exprience in pharmacy or volunteering would help.Coz they will ask u why the sudden switch to pharmacy?U need to really back it up.

I figure it can't hurt to apply, but I know my GPA is lower than the avg. for USN, and I want to be realistic. I'd just like to know everyone's thoughts on how competitive I am, whether I should apply this year, and if not, what I can do to be a better applicant next year?

Well it never hurts to apply, who knows! I think u r competitive but since u r halfway with ur classes, it will help if u can do very well in remaining classes so ur GPA doesnt get hurt.

Also, is USN "non-traditional" student friendly?[/QUOT

They r very student friendly. They care about their student or so they told us plus they want u to pass.It is really a good school.Ask for info Packet if u dont apply this yr and learn more about their system coz it a block system as opposed to other pharm school.
Hope i was able to help.
Curious though, why the sudden switch of career?

Sorry didnt come out the way i wanted to.🙁 Just read above

I just got an invitation to interview! I am so excited🙂 I put as my first interview choice the Jan 31st date at the South Jordan, Utah campus.

Yipee!!! 🙂

Hey Tic Tac,
Thanks for the response and encouragement. I can finish my prereqs by the end of the summer, so maybe I'll be ok there. 🙂 You asked why the change in careers. Basically nursing is a bad fit for my personality. I am very organized and like to have my "ducks in a row"...nursing is much too stressful with emergencies constantly coming up (patients coding, massive hemorrhages). Plus, I want more intellectual stimulation. Also, I love teaching patients, and I'd get more of that with pharmacy.

Just a thought. You will have more direct interaction with patients as a nurse than a pharmacist. You will get more opportunities to educate pt. as a nurse than a parcist. If you look at retail pharmacist in walmart or cvs, they are there to fill the prescription, forget about pt. education. I did not understand about "being a bad fit for personality". could you clarify on that?

I agree that nursing is too stressful. The work of pharmacists is stressful too depending on situations. Yes, nurses deal with body fluid that might be YUCkkk. They deal with dying pt. and they know how to handle situation of terminally ill pt and also have good understanding of palliative care that a pharmacist might be lacking.

In gallup pole pharmacy always falls behind nursing when it comes to integrity of work in public eyes.

I am from Utah and currently live in Utah (less than an hour from the USN Utah campus). If accepted to USN, I've chosen to attend the Utah campus rather than the main campus in Nevada.

Do you guys know whether there's a writing part (essay) for the interview?

Did you apply to the University of Utah?

No, there isn't... Just a 30 min interview.

Yep no essay. It's pretty much Overview of the pgm and school, tour of the school.Ok its one building 🙄 so tour of the building and then the interviews (usually 2 student and 1 faculty).U will b out of there by 1pm or earlier depending on ur interview time.

For those of you who have interviewed at USN before, how often do they send an acceptance to students before May?

I was also offered an interview on multiple dates.
stats:
BS in Genetics GPA 3.79
MCAT score (thought about medical school briefly) 39O (99th percentile)
Science Prereq GPA 3.45 (I received a C in Chem my first semester of college in 1994)
4.0 since I began uni again after a long hiatus, finishing my BS and taking prereqs I missed in my program.
Married with one child. Wife is an RN.
No pharm experience, but I have lined up shadowing experiences that will commence before my interview.

I am very excited about this opportunity to interview at USN. 🙂

My very educated guess is by may majority of pple already know if they have been accepted.
The 3 interview dates u were offered u just choose the best date 4 u and u r set.
I think ur stats r good and furhermore they called u for an interview so they like u already. Now its upto u to convince them that pharmacy is wha u really want. Emphasize on ur experience and achievements plus ur pharm shadowing.
PS: PLiz dont emphasize on ur mcat score and med stuff, they might think u r a med reject switching to pharmacy. So it is really a fallback career.Unless their is a pretty good reason for it. JUst a thought.
And yes i like USN too esp their block system.
Good luck

Hey Tic Tac, why weren't you prepared or what went wrong the first time you applied to USN?

Well i dont know what i did wrong although i was under prepared when it came to the interview questions. For example when i stepped in the interview room they asked me "tell us about urself" I was so nervous at that juncture that i forgot all about myself.:laugh:15minutes into interview am so relaxed and calm.Am like bring it on again.Needless to say that didnt happen. So be calm from the beginning it will do some good. I hope i do well this time around though.

First of all, congratulations EVERYONE on receiving an interview at USN!! This is an exciting time for you all and I really can't believe it has already been 1 year since I was in your shoes!

SoylentGreen- you seem like a well rounded candidiate and if you interview well, I think you have a great shot at becoming a future USNer.🙂 The interview panel as Tic Tac mentioned consists of usually 2 students and a faculty member or 2 faculty members and 1 student. I thought my interview was very relaxed and it seemed that they just wanted to see how you communicate, what your goals are, and if you are professional. I know it is easier said than done, but try not to be too nervous, you have already proven yourself academically.

Smilescali,

Thank you for the response and encouragement. I really am nervous. If it didn't mean so much to me (and my family) it would be much easier to relax! I'm glad that there are a some current students posting here who are here helping the hopeful candidates.

Thanks

I live in Utah too, about 1/2 an hour from the campus. I will be attending the January 31st interview also, so maybe I'll see you there!

Hi all...Tic Tac, thanks for the reply a few days ago...I see that you are going on the 20th of Jan...I will see you there then...Do you or anyone know of any sites that will help me deal with some possible questions they might ask..I was reading some of the questions that were asked before and I still don't how to answer them. Questions regarding filling prescriptions at different situations. Also..does anybody know about the ratio of students who get accepted without a degree versus ones who do...I'm kinda afraid that me not having a degree and having only been in college for 3 semesters would be a big setback. I'm still missing Org. Chem 2 and Microbiology(which I am taking now)..I have a 4.0 with all other prereqs completed at a four year university...thanks

With a GPA of 4.0 and since you are almost completing your pre-reqs, you are a strong candidate.

As for the ratio, I don't think this info has been made public by the school. In my group of 7, there are 4 students with degrees. However, in my opinion, this is a non-issue...I got in without a degree and I earned my pre-reqs @ a community college. You should focus your attention on answering the interview questions without being very nervous, and you'll be just fine.

Good luck! 🙂

anyone here know what we need to exactly bring to the interview?

a driver license and a copy of passport. Is that all?

Would those peeps that interviwed today 1/17 pliz give us some heads up on the questons pliz.Highly appreciated

How HOT is it in henderson,NV and what's the overall weather condition yearround? I heard it's freaking hot in the summer and snows in the winter.

In summer, it can be around 105-110 F. Snow in winter? Nah...it's rare. I lived in Henderson for 2 yrs during pharm school and it only snowed once or twice....very short, though. Overall, weather is good except for summer.
