For those who interviewed on the 17th and those who'll interview on the 20th. Just a reminder to update the interview feedback. It looks like someone has already visited and added their info: http://www.studentdoctor.net/interviewpharm/index.asp. Will the rest of you do so too, please🙂 Thanks a bunch and best wishes to those interviewing this Saturday!

does USN or any other pharmacy schools for that matter, actually call and check on your previous pharmacy work experience? I've actually worked in a pharmacy for three months but chances of that pharmacist being a good reference for me is not too good. help me out someone, thanx.

I'm set up for an interview on the 31st of January for the USN Utah campus! I'll see some of you there! Good luck!

Spencer

i interviewed at USN on jan 17th and this seems to be the only pharmacy school where I feel I can get in. How long does it take for them to accept after an interview?

haven't gotten detailed info on what to bring for the interview, just preparing ahead of time..what do I need please? thanks!!!

(This says "official USN" thread, so I thought I would bring it up in this thread 🙂 )

[copy of passport] OR [copy of driver's license AND birth cirtificate]
maybe a pen (not really needed, but if you want to take note or whatever), and dress like its a job interview (that's it).

I sent in my application on the deadline, 1/12. I then received an email on 1/25 from Laurie, saying that my application has been received. From this, can someone gauge when I'll hear back from them? And even if I don't receive an interview invitation, will they let me know that I've been rejected? Thanks.

My friend did the same thing (sent in app on deadline), and got scheduled for an interview last week (her interview is at the end of this month). So, hopefully you'll get a call soon! I also heard that they got close to 450 applications in one day, so that set them back a little.

...and yes, in the off-chance that you get rejected, they'll send you a letter.

I called USN today with a 2007/08 FAFSA question. I've never done FAFSA before so I'm wondering what you all think on this as well. The priority deadline for FAFSA is March 1 but the USN Recommended deadline is April 1. Would I be unwise to go by the USN one rather than the FAFSA one?

Thanks.

you also might want to take some small snacks. I had one of the last interviews of the session I was a part of and the few packs of fruit snacks I had came in handy🙂

anyone here thinks next week, those who interviewed on the 17th will get phone calls from Dr. DeYoung? I hope so. I usually don't pick up my cell phone but will be picking it up if the area code is 702! 😀

Anybody here schedule their interview for Monday, March 12th (at Henderson Campus)?
🙂

FAFSA's policy: first come, first served. Thus, the earlier you apply, the better your chances are of getting more money. I have applied for FAFSA every year since I started college, and noticed that I get more money by submiting my application earlier. I am going to submit my appt. by next week. Good luck!:luck:

I wonder if that is just for undergrad or does it work that way for professional school too? I will get mine in though soon and likely before March 1st but for sure before April 1st.

Hey USNers🙂

Are you shooting for the April 1st deadline or the March 1st one? Will it affect me negatively if I don't get it done till the April 1st one?

Thanks

Federal Aid works completely on first come first served so if you wait to do the application then you are farther down the list for $. Each school has so much money and when it is gone it is gone, so the longer you wait to apply the less money you could receive, or the school can run out of federal aid money and you don't get any. I believe loans are different from grants and even if you apply late in the game for loans you can still get money, but it will be late in the semester before you get the money. So bottom line the sooner you apply the better off you are. You don't have to have completed your tax returns, because it will let you estimate. Good luck

Is anyone going to interview this coming Saturday for USN? I'll be there this saturday in Utah campus. If yes, how would you get from and to the airport- by shuttle/taxi/train??? and where would you be staying- price of hotel and how far it is from the school?
Thanks

Mrsturtle,

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree the sooner the better but I also know that deadlines are set for a reason. Why would USN use the 4/1 deadline if this were putting us at a disadvantage?

I feel like it may be best for me to wait to finish my FAFSA cause my savings $ could be changing drastically since my wife and I are hopefully closing on a condo purchase in the next week or so.

Are there any current USNers out there that could help with this? If so please chime in🙂

I already interviewed there. Also, I grew up close to that area so I'll give you a suggestion. Since South Jordan (where the USN Utah campus is located) is a suburb of Salt Lake City and is about twenty minutes or more south of downtown Salt Lake and the Salt Lake Airport and since there is not a light rail train (TRAX) that goes that far south I'd rule out the train option. Book a room in one of the hotels close to the school. When you arrive at the SLC airport you could take a taxi or airport/hotel shuttle from the airport to your hotel and then from there have your hotel shuttle you to the school and back.

Here are some hotels very close to the USN South Jordan Utah campus where that option would work well:

-Country Inns & Suites by Carlson: Country Inn & Suites by Carlson-Salt Lake Cit

10499 S South Jordan Gtwy - (801) 553-1151

- Sleep Inn of South Jordan www.sleepinn.com
10676 S. 300 W. - (801) 572-2020

-Hampton Inn www.hamptoninn.com

Thanks gsinccom, that is very helpful
How did you do on your interview?

to add to the Finanical Aid stuffs, some pharmacy schools have low interest loans for students but FAFSA has to be submitted by March 1st in order to qualify. So do send in FAFSA as soon as possible🙂

I believe the 3/1 is for priority as far as the feds are concerned and when they process their end of things and the 4/1 is the date that usn has for their processing of aid, so it may seem that you are getting two dates, but they are for 2 different things. Your fsa has to process through the fed system before it is approved by them and then forwarded to your educational institution for processing there. If you need to wait a couple of weeks due to closing on a home (Congrats!! That is great) you will probably be ok. It usually takes about a week for the feds to ok you application then they send it on to the school. (I don't know if they are batched or just sent as processed) So if you can get the fsa app done before the middle of March you may still make the priority for USN. Good Luck

mrsturtle,

thanks a bunch! That was helpful! 🙂

others have any helpful insight on the matter?

hi guys, Thanks alot for all comments and clues. I had an interview on 1/20 , and I have 4.0 science and overall gpa. No bachelors, and all pre-requisites done. interview took 20 min. and I did OK!!! maybe 30/40.
I've seen people are hearing from Dr. Deyoung. I have'nt!!! What do u think my chances are? Please inform me!!! Thanks👍 😉

It is kinds of myth for the process of admitting to pharm school. Each school evaluates their own qualified students differently. All we can do is do the best within whatever situation we are in right now and hope the best to get in whichever school we are willing to be admitted. There are so many other factors admission committee consider to admitt prospective students. Not just perfect GPA. They also look at the pattern of classes you took while you taking the prerequisite courses, etc..... You will get the result couple of month later for sure. I am also telling myself that let's live a day by day instead of looking tomorrow.
