USN - Purely GPA based?
Started by michelle_is_me
Hey guys:
Just reading up on USN's website.... it says applicants don't need to send LOR... PCAT... All they want to know is ur marks? So is USN a purely GPA-based univs and a girl like me who's got great EC but crummier marks shouldn't bother? 😱
yeah, they basically just look at your numbers when granting interviews. then your interview will be weighed heavily after that.
boo 🙁
have u applied to USN b4? I have an avg of ~3.0 for both sci and cumulative.... do you think I should apply anyways or save my application money?

well since usn is now fafsa apprived many havthis school as number 1 choise
so the competition is gonna be heavier.. i guess every one who got accepteed has a per req gpa of over 3.7 easily
so it will highly unlikely that u can get called for the intervioew. if u get called then from then on ur GPA doenst matter too much

i called and talked to someone in the office. The app questions are not scored. Interview is primary determined by prereq gpa (Bios+physics+other non school prereqs do not count)+overall GPA. Then if you have a degree u get some extra points. And then if you have all prereqs done u get very very slight boost.
I don't know if i should apply either. It's 150 bucks, which is like 2 days of work for me 🙁

hey steviesmyth
i think if ur some-what close to the avg ~3.5.. then give it a shot..! if ur not...dont waste ur money 🙂 $150 is a lot! b/c every school wants some money outta ur pocket..
What? I thought ALL schools look only at your numbers (GPA and PCAT for some) for consideration for interviews. Then personal statement, LOR, work experience, etc... come after thatyeah, they basically just look at your numbers when granting interviews. then your interview will be weighed heavily after that.

no, i think it's safe to say that not all schools do that.

well for usn, that does NOT come at all... meaning from the person who i spoke to there told me that the answers to questions are used for interview discussion topics and not are not used as criteria for interview.
Wow.. $150 application fee is expensive!
One of the main reason I want to apply to this school coz no LOR is required.
One of Pharmcas LOR is from my Biology teacher who taught me 4 years ago! I am not acquainted to him! I am worried about how the LOR will be. But yeah.. If he agree to write, it should be at least positive one.
My GPA is 3.57. I just finished calculating the prerequisite-GPA according to their list. It is 3.70 even! I have a Bachelor degree so they might add some extra points. May be I should try?
I think I will wait and see how I feel after taking PCAT this August.
I guess they strictly calculated pre-req GPA? For example, I got B in Cal I and A in Cal II.. Will they average Cal II into the pre-req grade?
Sigh.. I spent almost a thousand for PCAT, study guids, Pharmcas, and these applications fee for different schools! It might be over 1,000 if I decide to apply more.... 🙁 How much did you guys spent?

Just a quick reminder: USN has an academic forgiveness policy, which means you can apply to have all grades older than five years disregarded. The stipulation is that you must complete ALL your prereqs within the previous five years.

application has short answer questions kind of what supplemental apps for some schools have...
However, your answers will not help you get an interview... if your gpa can get u an interview, your interviewer may ask some questions in regards to ur replies.
