Hey guys,
I've been following that "USN class of 2013" thread, and have been getting a bad impression of USN. In addition, having one of my good friends who is currently a P1 there, he reaffirms my apprehensions towards that school. I have an interview there in January, but I've already been accepted to Pacific Oregon. So here is the questions....Since Oregon's three yr accelerated program was modeled after USN's, do Pacific students share the same doubts as the USN students do? USN has preceptor sites that no longer want to be affiliated with USN, and students find it very difficult to receive after class help from faculty. Pacific's faculty seemed very accomodating to students, but maybe I can get some more opinions on here?
Yes I understand the 90% requirement on all tests, thats not a question. I want to know if Pacific students are well enough prepared for rotations, and have strong preceptor relationships. I don't want to take a big gamble paying over $40k a year (everything included) to have the same unfortunate experiences that some (not all) USN students are having. Thanks

Its only been 4 months, but my friend, a P1 at Pacific (OR) student, thus far enjoys his experience.

Also, I'm tech at Walgreens. And last year we had a PU intern at our pharmacy. She was a student from the first ever Rx class. She performed well as an intern and is now a float staff pharmacist in my district. 🙂

I had initially the same concern as you did. But I decided to take the offer from Pacific U. The faculty and students have nothing but good things to say. As for the 90% pass rate, I believe it's the same as USN. And for the rotation, they really provide a lot of experience and I believe you can even start having a hands on in your P1.

I would pick PU if I were you...this way I'll get to meet you in the fall 2010 🙂

Thanks for the reassurance codename!!! It would be nice to hear from more students if possible...pharmluck-I'm putting down my deposit butttt I still have a couple more interviews in January to my first choice schools...I'm not saying anything bad about PU, the other schools are just closer to home, and I can finally take advantage of in state tuition...but if those schools don't work out, I'll be definately looking forward to meeting you too...thanks for the replies guys

I was accepted to Pacific University (PU) as well. I really liked everyone at PU. They were so helpful and nice that it changed my perception of the school at the end of the day. There's no competition, no grades, plus your fellow students will help you achieve passing score of 90%. I can't wait to start. Also, if your from California like me, I will be saving almost 70k in loans.
Good choice for me.

You must follow what is best for you. Spending 3-4 years of your life in school is a huge decision. make sure you make the right decision!

Good luck to you if you decide not to go to PU.

See everyone in August!!!! Woo hoo! 😍

Espada- I'm from Cali also, can you elaborate on how you can save $70k? do you have a different loans? Please advise.

Well, its the approximation breakdown....

1st year - 37k (tution only) + 15k for (living expenses)
2nd year - roughly the same amount
3rd year- 38-40k (rise in tution over time) + 20~24k (rotation sites)

By not having a 4th year, we are almost saving 70 k in loans (with al associated fees and interest accrual. ) Hope that helps. This is just an approximation. Breakdown was given to me by financial friend of mine.
