USN class of 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Dr. DeYoung will probably make more calls as soon as candidates who were offered a seat make their final decision whether to attend USN or not. Hope there are plenty of seats left after the April 15th deadline. :xf:

Uggghh... the suspense!😱

That makes a lot of sense.

you would hope, but not necessarily!! There are many unaccredited schools out there that have graduated classes...be careful!
OH my, do you know of any in particular? Cause that's scary. I know many people applying to these types of schools.

Hey Rae, do you mind to elaborate more on this? How many is many, and what are their names? Just let us know so we can avoid them?

I always thought that once the school has precandidacy it means it's accredited by acpe (although not fully accredited). Candidate school graduates has the same rights and privilege of a fully accredited school. It seems like they have accreditation but not full accreditation which shouldn't matter since the graduates get to sit for the naplex. I can't seem to find a school that has candidacy but failed to achieve full accreditation on google?😕

from last year thread, it seems like rejection letters will be send out sometimes this coming week. last year several people got their rejection letter via email on the 14th of April you can check it out at this link http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=205776&page=35.
My interiview was on March 18th, and I am still waiting, I spoke to Dr.Deyoung on last week over the phone about my status and he asked me to wait and call him back after April 27th. Hope it will be good news for everyone who is still waiting this coming week 🙂

Maybe it's this week we will finally get to know something.

I am sick of waiting.

Hello Everyone!
Congrats to those who have been accepted, and good luck to those waiting!!

I am currently a P2, and decided to check in on this website since I used it when applying 🙂

Ill check back if anyone has any questions about the school, especially if youre trying to decide between schools to attend..

Be patient, calling Dr DeYoung before he has called you is not going to help your chances, it will probably just annoy him.

Also I have to ask, why would you ever go to a non-accredited pharmacy school?? Or to a school that is not a pharm. D program?? Jobs are hard enough to get as is!!

Good Luck!!

I am one of those that is willing to attend a non-accredited, pharm school, or would go to a non-pharmacy program (ex: pharmaceutical sciences) under the condition that this school also has a pharmD program. I am not sure.... but to me, if I got rejected by a pharmacy school, this seems like a really good way to make yourself more competitive for next try.

I am a bit confused. From what you wrote it sounds like USN is not accredited...... but it is, correct? I heard that USN just recently renew its accreditation for another 5,6 years.

I am entering my P1 year at Henderson this fall. Can I ask you some questions about the materials? so when will we get the laptop? and the materials in the laptop, is that like an online book or just the powerpoint summaries of the class?

summer remediation...... 5 chances, correct? but does this include the times when you failed the friday test, but pass on the monday retaking? or this is the time when you failed twice, going to summer school? sorry.... just a bunch of confusions I forgot to ask....

Don't worry. They are accredited for 6 years. You get 6 chances. If you get 3 then your on academic probation, 6 will get you kicked out of the program.

Sorry for the double post...I have a bad feeling about this week 🙁. I may have to reapply next year 🙁.

Thanks for the info 🙂

I heard for some schools, there are quite a few students in the pharmacy class coming from the waitlist because in the end, students decided to go to other schools. April 14th is only couple more days so I think there will be more spaces open up, especially with USN being so expensive. Good luck 👍

Thanx for the encouragement...I'm hoping to get into NV but I'll take UT at this point.

I am starting to get to the point where I don't care if I get rejected or not, I just want to know either way. I have been accepted at 2 other schools, but USN is my first choice. I would just like to start preparing to move to another school if I am not going to get in at USN.

Where else did you get in at? Ironically I'm on the flip side of what you are experiencing. Im holding a USN offer right now...but I'm on the waiting list for two other schools which I prefer. I know spots will open... so hang in there.

For those of you who got accepted and put the deposit, how much is the deposit?? If it is not too much I am afraid a lot of people put the deposit and wait untill last minute to hear from the other schools!! I know some schools ask up to $1000 to $2000 deposit to hold your seat!

it's 1000 for this school I believe

Thank you guys! Good luck for everone who is waiting for THE call! This week seems never ending!!!

You'll get the laptop during orientation. Your class materials will be posted on a server. For most profs, the powerpoint slides are all you need. Sometimes they have word docs instead and other times they have word docs that are supplementary to the powerpoints. It just goes into more detail. You'll have access to online textbooks but for the most part, you don't need them unless you want to do outside reading.

For summer remediation, you can get up to five of them. To fail and get a summer that means that you didn't pass Friday and then failed Monday too. When you do that you get a week of summer remediation. You can do that five separate times throughout the year. If you fail your block in summer remediation, then the consequences are more severe. You have to sit around a whole year until your block comes up and then you retake it with the class behind you. You only have to pay a prorated fee for the time spent in school but you will not graduate with your old class. I think you have to start paying back your loans too because you won't be at least a half time student anymore. This you want to avoid.

That doesn't seem so bad at all. Fortunately, this weeds out some of the people who aren't confident enough and feel they can't handle the program. I'm NOT saying that if USN isn't your first choice then you're not confident, so don't trip. But for some people, that is the case.

Good news for everyone: Some girl at my school who got accepted to USN, is mostly likely going to decline her seat. She's afraid of the 90% passing rule, and got accepted to a "C's gets degrees" school. Oh well, more room for you guys right? Frankly, I would rather have classmates who actually want to be at the school. I hope this seat will free up a space for someone who will contribute a lot to the team. Good luck everyone!!! Hang in there!!!

so does this mean you can fail the Friday test and retake on Monday as many times as you can? well, let's say you pass on Monday. Because then you still don't have to go through that one summer week, not a summer remediation!

Has anyone got accepted with a pretty low pcat score? How many people got interviews this year?

some people said that they were accepted with scores below 50 on the PCAT.

I got in at Husson (in Maine) and Butler (Indianapolis). I declined Husson when I got accepted at Butler. I have until May 1 to let Butler know, so I am just waiting to hear from USN. I live closer to USN and it just seems like it would work better for me. What schools are you on the waiting list for?

I wonder how much weight of the 20pts (maximum "interview selection score") account for the PCAT... since Interview Selection Score is only 1/3 of the total score. I was kinda disappointed with my score, but somehow I still managed to earn an interview. I think completing all my pre-req's and having a Bachelor's helped me earn it. The interview is worth a lot more... and I knew I did pretty well on it. Still crossing my fingers... :xf:

Butler is a great school. Congrats! I’m in waiting for one of the two Midwesterns...preferably Phoenix. There is no doubt in my mind that USN will go deep into their waitlist. This school is one of the few that does allow for deferred enrollment even up to a month before classes start. So there is a chance even late in the summer to be pulled from the list. Hopefully it all works out and you don’t have to wait that long. J

so does this mean you can fail the Friday test and retake on Monday as many times as you can? well, let's say you pass on Monday. Because then you still don't have to go through that one summer week, not a summer remediation!

Yes, you can fail every single Friday exam but pass Monday and be in academic good standing. You'll have that six weeks set aside for summer remediation to lounge by the pool all day if that is what you want to do.

I really wish that my USN interview wasn't my first interview~ I think I did so much better with my second one, so much more calm and confident... if only there is a second chance... :lame:

Hey guys Im back from tending to my vacationing guests. I was reading everyones post and no acceptances yet!! At least I was able to stop thinking about USN for a couple of days. Now back to worrying 🙂. I HOPE EVERYONE ON THIS POST GETS ACCEPTED!!

I HOPE EVERYONE ON THIS POST GETS ACCEPTED!!

👍 I truly hope so too. In fact, it was one of my interview question about if there's only one spot left, and there are two of you who equally qualify for the spot, which one should we pick? My answered to that one was..I truly hope that we could both get in since pharmacy is really our passion!
Good luck to everyone !!!:xf:

Looking at the posts from last years class, it seems there were a lot of people waitlisted that got in. So even if you dont get accepted now, there is still a chance.

Good luck, and I look forward to meeting some of the funny/smart/insightful/encouraging people that frequent this forum!!!!

Same here. I think it's going to be a pretty awesome class!

For those that got accepted is there a USN c/o 2013 Facebook page up yet? If not someone should do one, im not very good at that sorta thing.

I was thinking the same thing...I'm just too lazy to manage it. LOL!

I am not applying to USN but I have a question for u since u r a USN student.....My question is it the curricullum at USN requires u to achieve 90% or more to pass a class....Do u think it is more difficult to pass or the school prepares u in a way like following a modular block system that students achieve success.......Thanks

Congrats again. NV or UT? How many seats are available left from the time you got accepted(if you asked or was told)? Also, what are you stats (GPA, PCAT, ect.)?

Sadly I'm gonna give up my spot even though I love USN. Anyway, good luck to those who are on the waitlist and to accepted students as well.

let us know when its up... looking forward to the new fb group
Class 2013!
